Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

Well, i had this bad boy delivered to my office today, couldn't wait to get home to season it.

BTW< it weighs about 21 lbs, so sturdy, thick, and elegant, I am completely satisfied.

Another thing to note is that i got an "imperfect" for 40.00 less than the regular price... and there is literally nothing wrong with it... the box was damaged, but the damage didn't make it through the inner foam protectors.

Oh and P.S. - Thats actual glass in there, no polycarbonate plastic!

Thanks Tampa humidor!!

I started at 7pm by wiping down the interior with distilled water.

I then filled the Sponge Humidifiers with PG and DW.

Finally, i placed a shot glass of DW inside hoping to get her primed.

Noted - I did the salt test for 28 hours on my wally world hygro and it was off by one degree. i placed it inside at 7:30pm and its midnight, its only up to 53 percent, i htink its going a little slow? anyone???

Here are some photos, enjoy!!!

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

I'm a little concerned about the humidity... it's been about 12 hours and its only gone from 42% - 53%....

I seasoned it at 7:30pm.. and these results are as of 7:30am

But it got to 50% very quickly.... and it took like 8 hours to get from 50 to 53%... is this normal?

Heres how i seasoned it.

1. I wiped down the entire inside lightly with distilled water and a clean bath towl (it stained the towel, argg)

2. i filled the OEM black sponge humidifiers with a 40/60 (pg/H2o) filling and set them in the bottom outer bins like you see in the pics

3. I pit a shotglass on the bottom middle bin.

4. at 1am, i checked it and put a waterpack in the top.

5. at 6:30am in the morning this morning i added a shotglass of distilled water to the top tray as well....

an hour later i left for work and it was still at 53%

What could be wrong?

I would resalt test your hygrometer to ensure it is reading properly.
http://www.stogieguys.com/2006/07/st...tion-test.html

Also instead of a shot glass try placing a small bowl or Tupperware container with the distilled water in you humidor. More surface area will be provided by the bowl will help expatiate the process of your humidor absorbing the moisture needed.

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

Congrats, your humi is very nice.

You may also want to lightly soak a brand new sponge in DW and place it on top of a ziploc type baggy or in a tuppeware.

Be patient its going to get there. It took my 30 ct desk top humi about a week & 1/2 to get up to 65%RH.

No patience. It takes anywhere from 2/3 days to a week or more to properly season a humidor. You can speed up the process a bit by placing the shotglass of water in a microwave for 30/40 seconds then placing it in the humidor. Do that every twelve hours for a few days and you will have no worries about proper seasoning.

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

Nice humi. As stated above, it'll probably take a few days to a week to get it seasoned, just be patient. The less you open it up, the faster it will go. I think when I got my 100ct, I put a wet sponge, a humidifier with only DW in it, and some 70% beads and it still took 5 or 6 days before i could take everything but the beads out and still have it read in the 60's.

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

I have the same one from the same vendor. I've had it a couple of years now and still love it. They're a good looking and well made unit.

There is one thing you may want to watch our for. Mine wouldn't initially hold humidity. I finally realized that the seal around the analog hygrometer set in the front was the problem. It just didn't seal properly. I ran a bead of silicone around it and the problem was solved.
