Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

Hey there all you informative people. Sorry for this not being a formal introduction, that will be my next post I swear. I know I joined up about two months ago and haven't posted but I have been abusing the search function whenever I had a question. Until now. I wanted my first review to be of a cigar but I have come across a bit of a dilemma and I seek the advice of the gorillas here. I purchased an imperfect footlocker from cheaphumidors along with two cedar trays (to fit in the basin) and an engraved nameplate with some humi-gel. Well the Humi arrives and one of the corners is crushed in. Not terribly bad but enough to dent the cardboard/fiber wood that composes the bottom of the humi (see pics below). It is on the back corner of the humi so it's not that noticeable and the interior still seems sound but it still bugs me. To top it off both cedar trays were damaged as well, one lacked glue on the back wall which caused it to fall off and the other had a crack and separation along the side wall. Thankfully I found some wood glue and fixed both. The humi has been seasoned and I am on the fence as to whether or not it would be worth it to return the humi. What do you guys think? I have already sent an email addressing my concern with the damage.

Other than the corner this thing is great and while it isn't a looker, it serves its function well with tons of storage space. Even with the two additional trays I still have room for more boxes. I was originally looking at a cooler because I heard the slope is steep (HA! Slope? More like a cliffs edge, but I'm not complaining) but I still wanted a piece of wooden furniture and this fits perfectly in my entertainment center. I will post pics of it in my introduction post later this week. The one thing that scares me is that while it is indeed huge in person, for some reason it fills up really fast, I don't know how.
Cheers,
David

Re: Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

I've never personally done business with them, but a look at the "Imperfects" page sounds like someone checked out that "dent" and decided that it didn't affect the usability of the box. They are after all guaranteed to work perfectly. So my initial assumption is that it will still hold humidity fine. Now, the shelves. I hate to say, but I find it hard to believe that that humi was damaged and both the shelves also happen to be defective. Either someone dropped it hard enough to break the shelves, or they were substituted from a good box. Ask if they will take it back. It's worth a shot, at least because of the shelves. The "dent" is to be expected, but the shelves are plain broken, hows that for "working perfectly"?
Good luck, and welcome to the jungle!

I don't think that the dent in the picture is the reason that humi was an imperfect, that looks like it got beat up in shipping. And the drawers falling apart reaffirm that for me.

I'm very confident that the Vendor will make it right.

Re: Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

i understand that some are "imperfect".

But, i got my Salerno from Tampahumidor, it was egualrly 150 and i got it for 110.

And on the box handwritten was "white scuffs in finish on top lid".... If it didn't say that i ever would have seen them. I had to look VERY VERY closely and i found about 6 small (less than the size of a flint) scuffs that were under the urethane finish that you could only see if you looekd at it under a light at a certain angle...

I don't even consider that to be imperfect... but they do...

What you have ehre is Definitely imperfect, If i was CH.com i would have returned that one and not eve nsold it as an imperfect. i say Return it.

I would call them on the telephone and explain the problem. They have always been good to me.

That's not imperfect...that's junk. The vendor should replace those items for you.

Yeah, looks like shipping damage to me. What condition was the box in when it arrived?

Re: Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

It was definitely in the shipping as one of the corners of the box was crushed in. All the humi had for packing protection was a single sheet of 3/4" styrofoam for each side. All right, you guys convinced me, I'm going to ask for a replacement. I have read great things about the company, they should make it right. Thanks again guys.

One other thing, the trays that came with the humi were fine. I ordered two additional trays to fit in the bottom, those were the damaged ones.

Always make sure to note any damages to the package with the shipper before you open the box. Try and do it while the deliver person is still there too. If you don't, the shipper can always claim it happened after they delivered the item.

This retailer seems to have a high reputation so I would imagine they'll take the hit if they can't get the hsipper to cover the cost.

Unfortunately I was not there when the package was received.
Yarg! I sent an email over the weekend which did not get a response, I even left a phone message yesterday. Nothing.
I was originally just going going to keep it, so I put on the engraved nameplate (it had some glue backing) and now that I feel like returning it the freaking thing won't come off!

Re: Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

WOW! I am NEVER doing business with cheaphumidors again. This was their latest response to my email (in which I asked for an exchange and included the above pictures):
On Saturday 11/22 at 10:43am we replied to your previous email. We had indicated that you ordered an imperfect humidor, which is why it has the humidor has a dent in the back corner.

This was their first response:

I din't receive an intial email regarding damage to your humidor so I apologize. I do see you had ordered an imperfect model, but didn't see your specific concern.

I am trying to be as polite as possible in telling them that it is obvious that the damage occurred in shipping and that I also don't appreciate having to purchase wood glue to fix THEIR BROKEN trays!, What the hell kind of customer service is that!?!
I am going to settle down and have a couple fingers of scotch before I respond (this is either a good idea or a really bad one).
Meh maybe I am being too picky but this just doesn't seem right.
How would you guys respond?

Re: Imperfect Footlocker + cedar trays, and a question.

that is terrible.

Write them off if they do not at least take it back... AT LEAST.....

I cannot believe that in the type of hobby this is that they would risk their rep over it...
