Cigar band desktop humi project......

I bought my first humidor, a 20ct. Cherry wood desktop, almost one year ago. I have been collecting the bands of the cigars I have enjoyed during this time and amassed quite a collection. Many of these cigars were acquired through group buys, passes, and just given to me by generous brothers of the leaf. I thought I would do something kind of special (to me anyway) in order to preserve the memories these cigars have given me. My 5 year old daughter and I spent a nice afternoon gluing the cigar bands on top of my first humidor. I think it turned out perfect, and I thought I would share it with you all. Let me know what you think!

Nice job! What kind of glue did you use? I was playing with a similar idea, but my glue gun gave weird plastic-y gobs of glue and a glue stick wasn't strong enough.

Did you somehow seal the top to protect the bands?

I used a spray on glue first to put the bands on, then I put on three coats of a product called Mod Podge. It is a glue/sealer. That gave it a nice glossy finish.

Very impressive. I've been scanning the bands of my smokes for the last 3 months and am thinking of doing something digitally somewhere along the way.

This is really cool. I may "borrow" this idea as I collect bands. Do you have an idea on the total number of bands on there?

I don't know for sure, but some bands are underneath others. A good guess would be between 75 and 100.

Re: Cigar band desktop humi project......

Nice job!

I did something similar to the doors of this small cabinet wher I keep a humidor and accesories (I essentially used 5 years worth of bands). I am still saving my bands to go on the sides of that cabinet. I might be able to complete the project in another 5 years!

I also did a collage over one of my Xikar cutters...

I used a similar product for the finish.

Do you have any pictures of you Xikar done up?

I've been thinking of projects to do as well, this looks great, I also like all the ones I"ve seen where people layer them with the epoxy bar topper stuff.

Re: Cigar band desktop humi project......

I will be take some pics of the Xikar and post them later on. It looks nice but to be honest with you I sort of regret doing it. It no longer operates as smoothly as before. I believe the collage must have thrown off the precise balance of the blades.
