Colibri touchless beam lighter

Ok, so I bought one of these lighters on ebay. Me being a technology buff, I like getting "cool" stuff. The lighter activates the buttane and actual sensor +light once you open the lid. All it takes is the interruption of the light to the sensor for the spark.

Well as far as functionality goes, I wouldnt buy it if you can really care less if it has the ability to light with the pass of a finger. I would've liked to see a torch version, or atleast try to make it a bit more wind resistant. The flame can be put to about 3", but you wont get much use to it, as you'll probably have to refill it before the day ends, if that long.

Built quality; I have pretty much owned a good ammount of Colibri lighters. For some reason (HRMM china) they dont last very long without either creating a leak at the refill valve, or clogged/malfunctioning gas valves. However, the construction of the touchless is about the best that I have seen from them. The refill valve looks pretty solid, and the actual flame regulator also looks to be sturdy.The ceo is also a very well built unit, havent heard much complaints from people I know that own them.

Overall, if you want a really nice conversation piece which you only need for occassional usage and can spend about $70 on a lighter that will mainly be used for showing off or bringing on a cigar meet, then I would definately get this lighter. Unfortunately, I know that not everyone wants to spend $70 on a lighter that is barely going to be used.

Good review. Has a lot of relevant info that potential purchasers would need to know. I had briefly looked at some of these on the devil site, but passed. I don't recall there being a blurb that indicated the lighter was NOT a torch. I would have been unhappy if I had successfully bid on the lighter, and found it wasn't a torch!!!

Yea, I notice that most of the pages dont mention it is not a torch, but I knew this because I checked out the colibri site first and then went out and purchased it.

My question is, does the lighter light when...let's say a key passes through the beam in your pants pocket? I have never seen one up close. Surely there is something designed in to prevent accidental ignition. Probably the lid must be open too.

yea, once you open the lid, the gas and the sensor is activated. I will not spew gas or light for that matter, if the lid is closed.

Nice review Martin. This Colibri is definitely a conversation piece. I only use it for its "Pod Factor" (i.e., cool factor). Not good in the wind. Expensive. I actually had to send mine back to the factory within two weeks after purchase because it stopped working.

I bought two of these during the holidays, one for myself, and one for a friend. I would definitely not suggest this lighter for anyone who smokes in a windy area. Also, this lighter does not perform too well in cold temperatures. I have found that it does bring a LOAD of attention from ladies and makes an excellent conversation piece. I mainly use it on my cigarettes at the bar, nothing more.

I think most people's problems would be spending 70 bucks on a lighter that's gonna break in a week.

Nice review.

I speak from experience. This is a great lighter when it is working. I am on my second one. Colibri replaced the first one due to the sensor beam just clicking and not ignighting.

However, when it works it is great. I use it when I go out and need a nice lighter for indoor use. Other than that my $15.00 Nibo works great in all places.

I agree that it's a cool lighter, and it would look great in my accessories box next to the three other Colibri lighters that don't work.

Mine has been going strong for 6 months, as has my buddy's. Only thing I noticed is that near the end of the battery life (which is short) it tends to have a mind of its own.
