Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

I've been using Colibri triple filtered fuel for a long time now. I have 3 lighters; 2 Colibris and a Blazer PB-207. I've sometimes had trouble with each of the lighters--even the Blazer. I fully purge the lighters when refilling, but still I often have trouble getting them to light.

Recently I ordered some new fuel and decided to try the Vector quintuple refined fuel. The 2 cans I ordered arrived today.

I proceeded to purge my Blazer and replace the Colibri fuel in it with the Vector butane to see if there was a difference.

Well, the difference was huge. The Blazer now lights up every time. I can light it and rapidly wave it back and forth in the air and it won't go out. Doing this with the Colibri fuel guarenteed that it would go out immediatly.

A nice bonus is that the Vector 340 ml cans are much bigger than the Colibri cans. They also do a better job filling up the huge tank on the Blazer.

It's a great fuel.

I tend to agree as I have 3 different fuels,,Vector, King and Lava. Colibri is a good fuel as well but I am partial towards 5x fuel.

Re: Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

Vector is the best on the market for the price, and quality so for, at my local B&M it's only 5$ per can, plus it's cleanest fuel on market, 5 times filtrated, and prevent clogging.

I use the Vector in my Xtend and other Dupont lighters. I burns cleaner and hotter... Better refined.

Vector 5x hands down the best and most easy to find.

I didnt think it would make much of a difference and I always blamed my lighter but the Vector really blew me away.

+1 for Vector

Although it may be a mute point now that Colibri is out of business.

Thanks for posting this Tom. I have been wondering the same thing and am glad I saw this before I ordered more butane.

Re: Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

Another one for Vector. I completely clogged my Vector lighter using
other butanes. The fuel lines had brown residue in them. I took it apart
and put everything in an ultrasonic, cleaned all the gunk out and filled
up with Vector and it works like new.

No problem. It really made a difference--more than I expected. One thing I didn't mention is that large can the Vector comes in has more pressure in it and was able to fill the huge tank on my Blazer lighter almost all of the way. The smaller Colibri can didn't have enough pressure to fill it more than 1/3 of the way. A nice little bonus for those with the Blazers.

Re: Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

Where is the best (cheapest) place to purchase the Vector fuel? I looked online, and each site's shipping is terrible.

Would local B&M's have the Vector fuel?

I can't justify paying more than 3 dollars for this shipped...Ok, 4 for insurance call me cheap, but knowing these companies jack up shipping for more profit drives me bonkers.

Re: Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

I use the Xikar and the Blazer triple refined and have not had a problem at all. I read somewhere that the quintuple refined does not make a difference, But who knows. Glad it works for some people

Re: Butane fuels: Colibri vs Vector

Was using Xikar butane in my lighters, and made the switch to Vector after picking up a can at my B&M. Purged, and refilled. Nice difference. The flame burns LOUDER and LARGER on my Xikar Executive than it did with the Xikar butane. I'm sold.
