The Capri saw at cheaphumidors
The Taranto saw at tampahumidors

They are only a 50 count looking to give as a gift. I know both of these vendors have a great rep. on this site

Personally, I'd go with CheapHumidors.com. Great service and great products.

And don't discount getting more humi' for your buck with the Imperfects. I have one and it's worked great for nearly 10 years now, and finding what made it an "Imperfect" is not an easy task.

Besides color, I see no distinguishable difference on the outside. I cant understand how they can give a count estimate of 25-50 however. Im guessing 25 toros and 50 petit corona?

A humidor's capacity is based on it's storage of petite corona size cigars.

I had someone give me one. It worked well. Usually the hydrometer is junk and made of plastic.

Re: Anyone give some insight on these humidors

I had bought the same humidor and filled it up very quickly. Gave it to a smoking buddy and bought a 300 count humidor. Now it's not big enough.

Ended up making a coolerdor and now I'm set.

I never knew that Dale, thanks for the info. Any idea why? maybe only smaller RG's were available when humi's first became popular? Wonder what they did with cigars back in the day for humidification.

They simply didnt.

There was a long held British tradition of smoking "Havana Cigars" (common term of the day) dry. Alfred Dunhill acutally constructed a three stage system. "Green" cigars, right off the boat, were placed in the "Maturing Room". Next, they went to the "Keeping Room", then to the "Humidor". The entire process took about 5yrs and rendered a cigar that was extraordinarily well aged and rested at about 50%. Exhaustive research was conducted over decades to produce this result and many believe the method and results superior to what we end up with today.

Back in the day, cigars were simply placed inside a (usually) tin lined box and allowed to do their thing. Think about it though, these were the days before HVAC. Most temperate climes dont often ride below 50% RH. Even if they do, it's generally for short periods. The exception is much of the western US, which, but for a few pockets, is entirely desert.

Continental Europe and eventually the US became the proponents of the "wet" school of "Havana Cigar" smoking. This school eventually won out. Zino Davidoff was the first, when in 1923, he hung a sign in his shop window in Zurich touting to customers that all his cigars were humidified to 72%. This would have met with hysteria and derision in the UK.

Humidification and the use of spanish cedar are fairly recent innovations.

1) Zino wasnt even IN Switzerland in 1923 and didnt take over his parents shop in GENEVA until around 1930.

2) It was the late 30's when he posted that sign.

Sorry for the naughty finger work and for any confusion.
