La Crosse Weather Station WS-450 - Humidity way off

***This is not a detailed review, yet***

I just received this Weather Station
WS-450W WS-450B by La Crosse Technology - Tomorrow's Weather Today
yesterday and was able to set it up with the included wireless remote sensor TX-440-TH.
I also ordered 2 additional sensors so I can put 2 in my humidor/boxstorage and 1 outside to actually use it as intended, at least partially

I put the display up on my desk and the sensor in my box storage, together with the little Hygroset II which I had calibrated last week using the salt method.

This morning I saw that the Hygroset showed 59% while the remote sensor of the weather station shows 48%. I'm shocked that the difference is that big. The temperature was close (.5 F difference).

Unfortunately, it seems the sensor can not be calibrated. I will continue testing the 2 others (TX7U) and see how close they are to the Hygroset.

After that I guess I contact La Crosse and see if there is any way to get something that is at least in the ball park.

I had the same problem with my Oregon Scientific wireless Weather Station. They had no answer for me, other than to try different remote sensors.

Thanks John, that's what I'm afraid off.

Funny, it just brought back a childhood memory. Someone had a little 'weatherstation' hanging outside their front door. It had a thermometer mounted on a wooden board and the picture of a donkey painted on it. The donkey had a tail made from so kind of rope.
I recall it read

- If donkey tail wet - rain
- If donkey tail shaking - wind
- If donkey falls down - earthquake

I've got this one from LaCrosse with 3 sensors spread throughout the Vino: WS-9023U-IT by La Crosse Technology - Tomorrow's Weather Today

And I love it. I also have a digital hygro that I check every once in awhile & the thing is mostly spot on. I haven't salted tested them but it seems to be doing the trick nicely....good luck with yours!

Thanks David, I knew I shouldn't have gone with the fancy one
I thought it would be great to also have the Temp/rH on the sensor.
I'll test the other 2 sensors and if they work well I'll try to work something out with La Crosse.
If not I'll return it to Amazon and go with the one you have.

Re: La Crosse Weather Station WS-450 - Humidity way off

Ok, the verdict is in... return it is.
I set up the additional 2 sensors last night.
a) I couldn't get them to be recognized by the home base, no matter what I tried.
b) Left them together with the other sensor and the Hygroset over night in the box storage on the same level. The temp was ok, all 3 within 1 degree F of each other and the Hygro. Close enough for me, even without calibration of temp.
However, rH, different issue

Hygroset II = 59% (was calibrated to 75% using salt method)
Sensor 1 = 48% (was the first I had set up 2 days ago)
Sensor 2 = 55%
Sensor 3 = 54%

As there doesn't seem to be a chance to calibrate them (and I don't want to start cheat-sheets or stickers to calculate the real rH, the package goes bag.

Not being able to set up the remote connection on the additional sensors is not helping the cause either.

Our local weatherman must use these. That would explain why his AccuWeather forecast is always wrong.
