Re: Caliber III vs. Radio shack DIGITAL hygrometer
I got one and mine is minus 1% (Springfield) and is at the upper shelf of my tower humidor.
My second Wally hygro is the slightly more expensive Accurite and that one is minus 2-3% based on two separate salt tests. This one is at the bottom shelf. Finally, my Hydra unit comes with RH monitoring. I pretty much average the three readings ... Jorge

Re: Caliber III vs. Radio shack DIGITAL hygrometer
Many of the older Goril... uh err Puffers here say that they find the Western Caliber III to be the most accurate. That's why I bought 3 of them. I never salt tested them because Western advises against it. I put all three in one humi and they were all accurate (+/- 1) to each other. I use the 65% beads and am not too worried about RH right now, being it's winter. I'm getting 61 to 63% throughout the day and my cigars are smoking fine.

Re: Caliber III vs. Radio shack DIGITAL hygrometer
I've been using the Xikar which is also sold under the Madeline name. They sell for about $20, and have a lifetime warranty. They are also magnetic mount and come with a metal plate to stick on your humidor lid.
Very simple to calibrate. Do the salt test, then push the button (keeping the bag closed oc course). It automatically adjusts to 75%. No knobs to adjust. I like to keep two of them side by side, and they always read the exact same temp and rH. The day their readings don't match is the day I know I need to recalibrate. If they still don't match, then I can exchange them for new ones at any retalier. I had the Wal-mart one, and it kept drifting more and more over the course of a few weeks. I pondered getting the wireless models, but realized that I just like to look at my sticks, and checking the humidity every day is my excuse to smell that sweet/leathery aroma.
