WTH? Nibo lighter #2

Well I got a nice little Nibo assortment for Christmas, nice steel cutter, 3 cigar aluminum/leather holder and a triple torch lighter. Anyhow the lighter worked only twice when I first got it. Fine, it happens so I had the gifter take it back and get it fixed. Got a new one and it worked fine the first 5-6 times I used it. Now its dead again. It won't light up for the life of me!! Has anyone else had the same problem with the triple torch Nibo's?

What kind of butane are you using? The cheap stuff can really affect performance, the only other suggestion I would have is to turn the flame level all the way down, bleed it completely and then fill it back up and wait a few minutes before lighting it, also you may want to play with the flame level ‘till you find what sparks up and holds the flame the best. I have a couple of those lighters and like them a lot.

I haven't even had a chance to refill it. THere is plenty of gas in it right now but I have some Zippo lighter fluid that I can put in it.

Uhh.. torch + zippo fluid ain't gonna work. Zippo = naptha, Torch = butane. One's a liquid, one's a compressed gas. You can't mix and match. Try bleeding the lighter, filling it up with some good quality gas (most swear by vector, I also love the stuff.. but in my Nibo knockoff triple torch, I can run the cheapest ronsonol and still have no problems)

Bleed the lighter dry and get some triple refined fluid like Vector. I bet you will see this will fix your problem.

Actually the Zippo fluid is in fact Butane. Comes in a small aerosol can with the little nub at the end to stuff in the lighters hole . I will see if local B&M's have any vector fluid though.

Re: WTH? Nibo lighter #2

By any chance are you using the lighter outdoors under cold conditions?

I have two blue rhinos. One is a double torch but as soon as it gets cool (even if it is in my pocket) it starts to sputter and not light. When I leave it inside for a while and try it it works fine.

All torch lighters are very suseptible to cold. Some more than others.

If not, then I would also bleed and refill with vector. All of my lighters are working better with it.

It's not working at all though, even inside while warm. The problem is it won;t ignite, you'll see a brief blue flame and it then quickly extinguishes. I'll try and find some vector butane here.

Re: WTH? Nibo lighter #2

Do you have it set for the highest flame? Some of my torches do that when the flame setting is too low.

Sorry if I am just stating the obvious bro.

The vector (or any other triple-refined butane) will be useful. I use to use Colibri and when I changed over to vector all the lighters worked much, much better. One I was about to throw out but now works (highest flame setting with vector in it) fine. Go figue.

Yeah, I adjusted the flame in increments from highest to lowest but no go.

As others have said, I have trouble with my torch lighter (Colibri) when it gets cold (even a little exposure)... The other thing that helps when I have issues like yours is to give the lighter a quick shake. Not sure what it does, but it lights up straight away. I'm using the Zippo butane fuel as well & think I'll change over to the better stuff.

Re: WTH? Nibo lighter #2

You probably have a little flake of carbon buildup that is messing with the flow of gas through the jet. Spray some compressed air down into the jet and hopefully it will break apart.

You could also try increasing the max gas flow. I posted instructions in this thread: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=41071
I have "fixed" 3 different Nibo lighters this way.
