Boveda Seasoning Packets
To season a humidor, I am using the Boveda Seasoning Packets (84%). I am almost to the point where I should be able to put smokes in it. Here is my question.
Using the packets raises the humidity to appx 84%. With the humidity that high, am I setting myself up for beetles? Should I just put the sticks in and then everything will regulate down? This is my first time using the packets, previously I just used the sponge and distilled water method. The package says just add your sticks after 10days.....put I am a little leary. Any ideas? |

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets
after seasoning with the Bovedas, use the standard Bovedas to humidify the desktop. The regular Bovedas will bring the humidity back down to the proper level. Beads will also do the same.

OK...I have the heartfelt Bead sticks ready to go in, so that should bring everything down once the seasoning process is done

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets
Do you have a calibrated hygrometer in the humidor as it is seasoning?
I have seasoned three humidors with boveda packets, two with glass tops so I could monitor the RH during the seasoning process. For the glass top humidors (100 ct.), after 4-5 days, the RH stablized around 70%, so I removed the packets and added my regular humidification device. I then waited another 24 hours to make sure the RH was stable, then I added my cigars. Everything worked great. Honestly, I don't think the seasoning packets will ever get the RH to 84% like what is printed on the packet. When I seasoned my first humidor, after 3 days it was at 70% and really didn't change much for two more days (day 5), that is why I decided I had probably seasoned the humidor long enough and took them out. Maybe if I had waited 10 days it would have got to 84%, I don't know. Personally, I wouldn't want my humidors to experience 84% humidity for that long. The only time I have heard of a humidor getting to 84% with the seasoning packets was when someone added a shot glass of distilled water as well. Pretty much making the packets useless as they were absorbing water at that point.

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets
I wouldn't worry. I too have used the 84% packets on 3 of my humidors. No issue. I think they are set at 84% because a new humidor is SO dry. You should be fine once it stabalizes.

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets
Everything will even out when you add the dryer than 84% cigars in.
