Book Report - The Journey of the Havana Cigar

I used to live in Charlotte, and occasionally on Saturday mornings I would take the hour drive up to Statesville to the JR store. I found this book in the cigar lounge there. I spent quite a few great mornings chompin on cigars and looking at this book. After I left Charlotte, I had to order my own copy.

This book is loaded with history, especially interesting to me were the accounts of the first European settlers to meet up with cigar smoking Indians. There is a also page that talks about ancient medicinal uses practiced by Indians throughout the Americas.

The pictures in this book are great and huge - 8 by 10 and larger! They are all done on super glossy paper - its rare to see pictures of this quality in a book. From preparing the soil to decorating the boxes - there are 60+ captioned pictures. There is a really cool one in a factory with a gallery of cigar rollers, and a "reader." Apparently the readers job is to read newspapers and books to entertain the rollers. How cool!

History, psychology, poetry, farming, manufacturing - its all in there. I paid 30 bucks for my copy 3 years ago. From the pictures alone, the books worth 50. I just did a search and you can find this for 7.

Just ordered this through Amazon so I didn't have to register on that site. Total with shipping came to $10.28.
