Re: Diamond Crown Maximus Robusto No. 5 Cigar Review - Wonderfully consistent

I just had one the other night after having it in the humidor for the past 4 years. This was the third one I have had in as many years and just don't see what everyone else sees in this cigar. While it burns great and draws well, it just doesn't have the "pop" or taste that does anything for me. It is at best a one dimensional cigar with a taste that is mild to medium. At the price point they go for there are too many other cigars out there for my taste. I won't be buying these again. just my 2 cents

While I rarely dare to differ with Gary, I have to step up in support of the DCM. Ive been enjoying these avidly since I lived out west and it was the "Western Opus X". While I don't find them on the strong side, I do get a lot of wonderful flavors from them. I find that I have to force myself to slowwww down when I smoke them, since to hard 'a tug flattens them out pretty fast. As such, the robusto takes me about 1:10 and a pyramid can run well into two hours. I dont find that they improve with age to the degree Opus seems to, with <3yrs being the seeming ideal for me.

Thanks for the review, Jon!

Hey, not a problem, Don,,,we can't always see cigars the same and if we did it would be a boring world. I wish I could get the same enjoyment from this stick as everyone else does. I have heard it called the "Western Opus" as well,,,and I love the Opus Cigars. I think my palate runs towards the spicy,,,,full bodied,,,robust complex side of the tobacco leaf. Guess that is what I get for smoking for 40 years,,unless it has a lot of zing goin on I tend to get bored with the taste.
