I have beads from both Heartfelt and Cigarmony... I have had much better luck with the ones from Cigarmony. Do not know why or how, just what I have noticed. The ones from Cigarmony in The Puck are easier to use, and they seem to do a better job of keeping things stable.

- you have to keep the temp under 150 deg F (65 deg C) - you run the danger of changing the beads' RH setpoint, i.e., leave them in too long and you'll end up with 50% beads, not 65% beads or whatever. - it won't be any faster than doing it any other way. The above points apply equally to the hair dryer method. The safest and probably best method is to put the saturated beads in a tupperware or ziplock with a known-good hygrometer and a dessicant. Don't mix the dessicant and beads together - keep them physically separate, but in the same tupperware/ziplock! Throw in an Oust fan if you have one, agitate the tupperware/ziplock a few times a day if you don't. When the RH gets back down to the RH you want - NOT lower - remove the beads and put them back in your humidor. A commonly-available dessicant is kitty litter. PetSmart's "Exquisicat Pearls" clear silica bead cat litter works fine, and, as a bonus, you get more beads that you can use in a humi if you want. (The cat litter and Heartfelt (or Cigarmony's RH beads) are not chemically the same, so you need a sh*tload more kitty litter beads to have the same performance as Heartfelt or RH beads.) Note none of the above applies to the crystal gel stuff. |
