Plugs or what?

I have lately had several gars that have been extremley difficult to smoke. The problem has been what seems to be a plug I guess but this seems to have happened to many times and I am wondering if it is a bigger problem. The sticks seem to develope a knot while smoking. The center gets really hard and when I chissel(sp) at the cherry it is dark black and does not seem to be burning. The sticks also seem to swell up during the smoke. My question is could this be something with the humidity? I have a digital and it reads between 66 and 72 at the highest when there are more smokes in there. Temp is at about 74.

Anyone who may have some insight please let me know.

TIA Doug

Re: Plugs or what?

If it's happening with different brands, etc, My guess would be that your humidity is too high. You might want to drop it back to about 65% and see if that helps.

Re: Plugs or what?

Yeah i second that. It most likely to be a Humidity problem. I try to keep all the cigars Cubans and Noncubans at 65-67, even if for Noncubans the recommended is 75.

Yeah... humidity's too high. The swelling's an almost dead give-away. Do they taste a little off?

Check you hygrometer, (Salt test search). Bet you're off a bit.

And do it quick, man...the weekend's here!

I agree.........

check your hygrometer....definite moisture problem

I try to smoke everything in the low mid 60's..........if possible, get that temp down as well........anything above 70 is asking for trouble (beetles!!).
