As you wish, J. It's your thread; no more oatmeal here. We resume cigar vs. Balkan Sobranie with incidental consideration of thick sliced bacon, Serie A and Limitada. Hope your week is better 'n porridge!

Why didn't you put this hotbed of insightful discussion on the pipe forum?

Julian, sorry about bringing up oatmeal on your thread. I thought we were throwing out random facts and I got carried away. It will not happen again.

If you like these you should try Ethiopian Harrar, one of my favorites

You are right, Sir! This really is an old thread. Hijack or not, I'm lovin' that new life is breathed into it. The irony before Christmas, like O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi", is unbelievable; this thread began BEFORE there was a pipe forum and AFTER the oatmeal forum was discontinued.

Actually, since I got new pain drugs - and they ARE good - and began physical therapy I feel more like my old cheerful self which means, unfortunately, I am again ready to intrude in any thread with unmitigated nonsense.

I think Mmblz keeps an open mind on threadjacks around the holidays; Scottie knows an opportunity when he sees one and is always one for a kind word; Puffy69 has a bagga BS that he's keeping close to the vest; ResIpsa - well, Vic'll slide in on anything about coffee (which is often drunk with oatmeal); and what has become of DrNeves and his Series A take on the situation?

So, Roc'tar - can you equate BS with any particular cigar? I have to admit that pipe tobacco in general (and BS in particular) has really snatch-a-roo'd my attention from stogies for the moment. So much there - so inexpensive - so...... deep and cheap.

I have smoked a pipe & cigars (mostly cigars the last five years) for a very long time, 25+ years. Believe me, there are no cigars that even come close to tasting like pipe tobacco and vice-versa! Two compleely different animals, so to speak. Yes, there are a number of tobacco blends, now days, that have various cigar leaf mixed into them, and in some cases, they do taste like a cigar at times. However, there are no cigars made, that I am aware of, that have pipe tobacco as part of the filler, binder and certainly, not used as a wrapper. BTW, Balkan Sobraine is one of the worlds finest Balkan/English Blends. It was a sorry day, for pipe smokers, when it was discontiuned in 1996.

Re: balkan sobranie flavor?

Sorry-- I'm picking this thread up from the past.

I HAVE found some pipe tobaccos that remind me strongly of cigars- brown twists and ropes from England. The Brown #4 from Gawith, Hoggarth (I think, I always get them confused) tastes a great deal like cigars made with african tobacco...and the strength is intoxicating like a great strong cigar. This tobacco is supposed to be unflavored, though I always taste the merest, faintest hints of Lakeland scents and flavors in the far, far background. Just a ghost.

I have always thought it would be nice to have a cigar made from brown twist tobacco...
