Question Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds - How do they compare?

Hi all,

I was wondering how many of you have had any experience with the Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds that I have seen advertised in such stores as CI? There are a few major questions in my mind when I was thinking of purchasing them for my slowly growing humidor:

1. How does the taste compare to their more expensive 'regular' bands
2. How is the draw for these cigars? This is the main thought I had, as I wondered if perhaps the cosmetic visuals on the wrapper or filler may result in a draw that is sub-par as compared to the more expensive versions of the same cigars.

I am in graduate school, so any time I can save a few dollars here or there I am very open to the opportunity. However, I wanted to make sure that I am not throwing my money out the window as well. Thanks in advance for any insight any of you can give into these questions.

To be honest, side by side I can't tell the difference physically. I can't say that they're any better or worse constructed than the Firsts, because every cigar is different. Ditto on the flavor profile.

I very much doubt anyone but a highly experienced taster could discern the difference, and even then that's totally subjective, since you could easily have identical cigars have slightly different tastes due to the tobacco used.

I love the Vintage Seconds! I'm almost through a bundle each of the 90s and 92s (Toros). I like 'em so much I ordered another bundle of the 90s. I got them for $31 at C-Bid, which is $14 less than at CI. You can always find them on C-Bid for less than you'd pay at CI.

I highly recommend these cigars!

They are just as good

I would say I've had more draw issues with these than typical "firsts", but they're still well worth the price.

I'm in my seventh year of grad school. Needless to say, I smoke plenty of seconds. The seconds from CI are very good. My favorite is actually the RP Sungrown Selects from Famous. Check those out if you like the RP Sungrown--plus Famous gives free shipping on orders of the select bundles.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds - How do they compare?

Without the bands, I can't tell the difference. In fact some of the "firsts" I have don't look as nice as most of the "seconds"! Unless I find a great deal on firsts, I'm all about the RP seconds. Love the 1990.

Re: Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds - How do they compare?

I love the 90's, and the 92's for that matter. So as you can guess I was all over the seconds. Appearance wise there are next to no differences. Taste wise they are exactly the same. I have had very slight draw and burn issues with a select few of them. All in all, they are great.
