Packing a Humi tight question
Just out of curiosity, is it a problem to pack a humidor too much?
In my case I have a 300 count Savoy dome humi and it is totally packed. So much that each stick has to be properly placed or the top tray will not sit on the edge properly. Same with the cigars on the tray, I have to finagle them just right so the lid shuts tight. Is this a bad thing considering there won't be any air flow to most of the sticks? I also have a tupperdor packed too, would this be a problem too? |

It's only a problem when you cant close the lid
![]() Smoke faster! Seriously, if you have enough humidification I think you'll be fine. Rotate your cigrs every once in a while. I think its actually easier to maintain humidity in a full humidor. |

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
The main difference about a packed humidor is that you may have to either (1)increase the amount of beads -or- (2)check the amount of solution in your humidification device a little more often. The extra cigars will leech more moisture from these devices. If you have a Hygrometer, just make sure that the humidity stays where you want it to be. Also, as someone mentioned, just give the cigars a turn every now and again.
Other than that, having 'too many' cigars is a problem that is nice to have |

There's only one real solution to your problem - smoke 'em more often!

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
Sounds like your acquisition of cigars to cigars smoked a day ratio is out of control.
The fuller the humidor is the easier it is to maintain the right RH. Smoke a few, bomb someone, and hand a few out for Christmas. That should reduce the inventory.

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
It's only a problem when you no longer have room for a humidification device
![]() I'd suggest sending a few to the troops and launching some bombs while you start working on getting a coolerdor together |

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
Mine's the same; just smoke a few and problem's gone..
(until you buy more smokes).

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
The key is not to have your cigars be in contact with the humidification device as you may have over humidification issues and mold with them. Get a bigger box or sneak some of your wifes Tupperware.

![]() A full humidor will maintain humidity better because there is less air, and air loses humidity easier than cigars.

Re: Packing a Humi tight question
Thanks for the replies everyone!
![]() I use the puck for RH control and so far it has been great, no real issues. Hope it stays that way. ![]() I am looing to expand, I'm tossed between a standard cooler or a wine chiller but I have not decided 100% yet. The wine cooler (thermoelectric) option looks great but I'm a little confused on what I'm reading about condensation. Once I get it figured out I'll take the plunge. A cabinet humi might be an option but seems just for storage and not show it might be a waste of money. (more for addition sticks )I do send out bombs and gifts a lot yet I still keep packing them in. I guess my buying is a little out of control. ![]() I have not contributed to the "cigars for the Troops" yet though and am interested in doing so. Can someone pm me or point me to the details of who to send the package to? G |
