in the wrap or in the NUDE?

Do You store your sticks in the wrap or nude?

If wrapped
Will they age as well or at least nearly as well?
Will there be more of a chance of mold?

If unwrapped
Is there a way to prevent damage? (other than being very careful)
Do you rotate your stock and is it really necessary if you do?

Now relax and smoke one of those things, pick an aged one, what the hell go for a maduro and don't forget nice bottle of stout or porter.

Thanks for reading and please post your opinions and thoughts, that's why I asked.

Don't think this has ever been asked before on CS...

No need to take the sticks out of the cellophane. Best not to jostle them needlessly. They will age just as well if not better. Don't know about mold.

I've heard that unless you know your humidor has absolutely even humidity levels throughout, you should rotate the stogies every now and again. Otherwise problems like canoeing can creep up.

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

You tricked me! Never put nude in a thread title around me, especially in caps!

Now where were we...oh the storage. I actually like to store my cigars in the cello, it seems to keep the humidity more consistent so they won't dry out at all. Just my so make sure you send me my check

Uh oh another cello on/off thread?

Nude personally. No reason really just always did it. And I like keeping the inside looking uniform.

I store mine Au Naturale I personally don't think it makes any difference either way but I do agree with Jeff in that if your humidification system is the passive type you should rotate youe smokes every once in a while

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

I can't vote. I'm in a open-ended loop. I store both ways, so I keep going to the nude, but then have to jump to the sheathed. Endless circle. Ctrl-Alt-Del. Ahhhh. That did it. Guess I will just post a reply.

If they come in a wrapper, i leave them in a wrapper. Most of the ISOM's I have are ala natural, so they go in a smaller humi I have that is used only for un-wrapped sticks. The grouping I purchased recently from DAFU were all without wrappers, so they too are in the nude humi.

I'd say 25% of my stash is nude, 73% wrapped, 2% metal or glass tubo.

I like to leave the cello on. I took it off for some and they got a little beat up so everything that I buy now I just leave it on

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

Well I used to be a Nudie but now the ones that come with Cello stay in cello.
Read some articles lately saying that they do take longer to age in Cello butt they age better. Something to do with the oils being maintained within the cigar better etc. I don't know if this is true or not but it can't be bad to give it ago.

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

If it's going in my humidor that I open up 3-5 times daily, the cello stays on. If it's going into my coolerdor for a long stretch, the cello comes off.

There really is something to storing cigars long term in the nude. I see it first hand in the shop I work in time and time again when I open up a box of 50 Rotchchildes that have been sitting in the walkin humidor for over a year without cell compared to the cello'd ones. The uncello'd ones look PHENOMENAL. The wrappers are considerably oilier. Wonderfull things happen to cigars that are bundled up in a wheel, naked, swapping oils in a seady cedar cabinet. Sometimes you can hear that bow-chicka-wow-wow ***** music comeing from inside the box, I SWEAR .

Another reason I leave the cello on my cigars in my daily humidor, aside from stabilizing the humidity and protecting the cigar, is that swapping of oils. I have noticed a slight change in flavor when I left a row of nude JdN Antanos on top of a row of cheap, nude, JR Paintcan cigars (they're domestic Partagas without the band). The paintcan cigars took on some of the strength of the Antanos after about six months (yay for that!), so I've become a little paranoid about retaining the integrity of the cigar's flavor.

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

It all depends on how the come... in cello they stay until I smoke... not in cello... well, thats obvious, and if I get round to buying a box, I'll probably have a humi/cooler I can fit boxes in so they'll stay in the box... aren't I a pain.

I'm with Lumpy. I was removing the cello for awhile but truth be told I got lazy and said screw it. If the maker wants it in cello thats fine by me. My boxed cigars stay in the box. Tubed cigars stay in the tubes in the box. You get the point. I have taken some of the connies I have bought and put into boxes in my coolidor just to make storage eaiser.

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

I tend to keep them the way they came. I would say that at least a third or more of my cigars are in tubes or crystal. With these, I smoke a couple. If they are good, the rest stay in the tube. If they are too dry, I'll take them out of the tube for a couple of weeks and then smoke another one. If they are OK, then I either leave them nude or put them back in the tubes, depending on how fast I think I am going to go through them.

Re: in the wrap or in the NUDE?

I generally take the wrapper off, and smoke the binder and filler.

Am I doing something wrong?

Don't store them.
Smoke them faster than they can age.
