1st post! infuse liquor?
Hey guys, first post here on the forums,
long time smoker, but never made the humidor plunge, recently have (thomspon diamonback) and ready to get going. Humidor already up and running with a digi hygro...but I have heard about infusing liquor in humidor Someone said that they have taken all the sticks out and put a shot glass of frangelica in for a day, then put the sticks back in,and always get a nice taste is this ok for the humi? any suggestions? |

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
I haven't tried it myself, but I'm not a fan of flavored cigars... I would think that if you're trying for a flavored cigar, chances are you likely buy them flavored already. I don't know what kind of results you would get from adding an additional layer of flavor to the cigar.
If on the other hand you smoke non-flavored cigars and want to cover up or modify the taste of a less expensive cigar by doing this, all the power to you and I hope it works. I don't know that this will be a permanent effect though and you'll likely have to "charge" the humi over and over again to keep that flavor going. Seeing as though this is your first humi, feel free to experiment. Eventually though, if the hobby takes a hold of you, you may find your self needing to replace the humidor later on to avoid altering any premium cigars you'll invariably end up purchasing. Have you ever though of checking out pipe smoking? It's my understanding that there are a ton of different flavors that can be accomplished by mixing blends or buying a flavored blend that suits you. Good luck and happy smoking! ![]() |

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
Don't do it
Get an old cigar box and take a few sticks out and try it that way. A few days should do it.

Don't do it! If you want a drink, have a drink. Don't spoil a perfectly good cigar with it.

![]() No need to 'infuse' your humidor for the sake of an experiment. I don't care for infused sticks, but I do recall there have been a number of threads here over the past couple of years that deal specifically with this subject. The Club Stogie Menu has a bottom row, one of which has "Search." That should net some pretty good reading before you start your experiment. |

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
Sounds like a waste of liquor and a humidor, let us know if it works at all. Try it with some Cremosa.

I agree....... I had a friend try this, not thinkng he took a humi he wasnt using and put some liquor in it with a few cigars.... he wasnt thinking at the time, it took months to get the smell out before he could use the humi again. Buy a seperate box for flavored cigars and experiments. |

I've not read anything about doing that (or heard of doing anything like that). If anything, I would use an old humi that you wouldn't mind throwing away for this experiment. PS, most will start telling you on here to just get a cooler and humidity beads. Much easier to maintain (our motto here, is go bigger than what you think you'll need, cause this is one fast slope to travel).

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
Welcome to CS.
As said already - don't do it with good cigars or ruin a humidor in the process. Otherwise, knock yourself out and see what you can come up with. I didn't have the greatest luck with how I tried it: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...t=74594&page=3 BillyBarue

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
Jay - Welcome to CS. The idea you put forth could be worth doing. We are talking about your own personal taste here, so no particular rules need apply IMO.
A few weeks ago I started a thread about the effects of sprinkling high quality ground coffee over cigars in a box or humi. For me this experiment was a great success, and I continue to do this with some of my sticks. It just adds another dimension of richness and smoothness without taking anything away from the flavor of the cigar. My best suggestion would be MODERATION. A little Fra Angelico could go a long way in this case. You may be happiest with a subtle enhancement of flavor rather than a total transformation, especially with a good quality stick. Please post the results if you go ahead with this. Cheers, Larry. |

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
maybe it was only a local thing, but I seem to remember self infusing cigars being pretty popular. I think it may have been the 90's, I remember some mail order catalogs (not cigar specific ones) would carry cheap humidors with an additional special compartment for infusing you favorite drink... cognac and brandys being often suggested. Never really understood why you would want to do that... to me, the chance of over doing it was too great. And I always thought that if you like to have your cigars tasting like something else, maybe you don't like cigars.
but in the defense of people in the 90's, there were a lot of pretty bad but still pricey cigars out there (and some might argue that is still the case) so, maybe the home infusing made them somewhat palatable. personally I agree with most of the responses so I'll say, "don't do it!" but, the idea of a cheap empty box and some cheaper sticks to experiment makes sense... who knows? maybe you'll get something you'll like... and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters. |

I agree with everyone who says DON'T DO IT!
All of your cigars will taste like the flavored liquor. ![]()

Re: 1st post! infuse liquor?
I love cigars and Single Malt Scotch.....I dont flavor my Scotch with cigars and I dont flavor my cigars with Scotch.
![]() If you wanted to experiment with a few cigars with infusing flavors like coffee and certain whiskeys then do it in a tupperware container and keep it out of your humi. ![]() |
