Basicly take a few Bovida packs a dish of distilled water and a air tight air tight container and they will rehydrated themselves. IT may take a couple of days but it does work. I don't know how many times this can be done.
Do you put the Boveda packs in the distilled water or next to it? Thanks!

Kinda like seasoning a humidor. With the packs placed in the air tight container with a water supply. The two way nature of the Boveda pack it will absorb humidity once it reaches a level above the specified level.

Good to know, now if I only had distilled water up here!!

I will try it for sure when I get my Boveda packs, maybe I will have to make my own distilled water!

After reading this it still may not be real clear. The packs should not come into contact with the water.

J: I just talked with a Boveda rep. on the phone and he said that, while the packs may re-hydrate this way, the residue in the packs is not effective after 2-3 months and will not keep the RH at the correct level. He informed me that after the Boveda packs start to get hard, they need to be tossed.

This may be true but it is working for my neighbor. He has not had any RH problems. He also does not let them get dry to the point where dry substance in the pack is very firm. Its worth a try if you use Boveda packs.

Hey, if it will save a few bucks, I'll try it! Thanks for the advice!
Do you use Boveda packs, beads or combination?

I use traditional foam humidifiers now. I ditched my beads a few months ago. The beads worked OK but I seem to have better luck with foam and distilled water. I do charge them initialy with PG then continue to recharge with regular distilled. I posted some thread with my findings after using both. It is just my opinions but thought I would share. Search "Ditched my beads".

J: Just be careful with the PG! I almost ruined $500 worth of cigars with that stuff! All my cigars (2 years old and 1 week old) had some degree of "chemical taste"! I'll never use PG again!!! I'll spend the extra money on Boveda packs in order to keep my smokes in good shape. Take care and thanks again for all the good advice!

I'm new to all this too so when I set up my cooler I bought the 65% beads from Heartfelt and an Oust fan at my local grocery store. It has been a no-brainer to control the RH. Gonna switch my humidor, where I have been using the PG solution, over to the beads now.

Yup, couldn't be easier than Beads and a Cooler

Best thing to do is to put the Boveda packs in the trash next to yesterdays egg shells. Then get yourself some beads and forget all the fooling around to regulate Rh. Saving a few bucks on humidity control seems misdirected. You have or will have hundreds of dollars invested in good smokes. Why mess around? Buy yourself some beads.

Re: Boveda Packs Vs. Beads

Beads are obviously more cost effective then the Boveda's, but it really depends on your situation. For my fridge-o-dor I use 2lbs of beads because it works just as well (and space is abundant) as opposed to my desktop humidor where space is a premium so using 2-3 Boveda packets seem more practical.

I haven't tried the beads yet, but I have been using the 69RH Boveda packs in 2 separate humidors, one 30 count, the other 200+ count with multiple drawers. Both Humidors are running consistently 68-70RH with my digital calibrated Hygrosets I bought from Dave at Heartfelt. I'm very happy!
