Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Candela

I ordered a box of Fuenta 8-5-8 Candela's today, and was wondering if there would be a problem with adding them to my humidor which has no other candela's. I've heard that these have a grassy taste/ Sweet taste to them, and was worried about the aroma spreading to my other non candela cigars. Should i use a divider and keep them away from my other cigars or even put them in a dedicated candela humidor? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Derek

In my experience (IMHO) I think it would be the opposite. The Candela will probably pick up some of the aroma from the others. In all actuality I don't see it as a problem. If you want to run an experiment... take a few and isolate them in a separate humidor and when the time is right smoke one from each test group and compare. Congratulations on your box purchase. At one time the candela wrapper was the most popular in America.

Here is a great Candela article on the CA website titled;

It's Not Easy Being Green
Candelas, once hugely popular, are latter-day oddities that must fight for respect among their tawny cousins

excerpt
Quote:
...they once were the preferred smokes of Americans, so popular in the United States that cigars with candela wrappers became known as American Market Selection. (Natural cigars, the ones that make up the vast majority of today's cigar market, were dubbed English Market Selection.)

Thanks, thats a clever idea with running the the experiment. I will do that, i'll fill my small humidor with equal amounts of natural and maduro wrappers and some candela and compare them in a controlled environment. I'll report back with what i find out. Thanks for the articles, I really enjoy the Candela cigars and like reading about the history of the Candela.
Cheers,
Derek

Interesting, I always associated candelas w/ cheap machine mades until I saw the Fuentes. Good article too. I just might have to try some.

Graycliff makes a very tasty candela aswell, The fuente is quite a bit cheaper than the Graycliff and usually have only a few graycliffs in my box at any given moment due to price. I prefer the graycliff over the fuente.

Camacho also makes a pretty good candela wrapped cigar. Not as mild as most.

I always like to try something with a sweet taste.

Let us know eventually how your experiment works out too.

Great cigar if you want a nice candela as a change of pace. I used to buy JR Ultimate Candelas because they were both tasty and economical.

I would not hesitate to store with other sticks; the only sticks I would segregate would be flavor infused or aromatic sticks like Acids.

That's interesting that you enjoyed the JR Ultimate Candelas. The only time that I tried one, I was in JR Cigars in New York on 42nd street. I thought I'd try it for something different. Unfortunately, I found it rather bitter, and not all that enjoyable. Maybe I should try some again (because I need another excuse to pick up more sticks)

I believe they still sell five packs of just about anything.

I usually give anything I get from JR's a well deserved nap.........their shipments tend to be on the wet side for me, which can produce a young, sometimes unpleasant experience.
