I have gotten both of the deals so far and have smoked from both of them and they taste like a blue label to me. On the email thing, I have noticed problems trying to get a hold of them as well, but this was a couple months ago. But CI would never sell a knock off of a Don Pepin cigar, they have way to much lose to do something that stupid.

I agree, but sometimes I question CI / Cbid's advertising and descriptions. That box of Camacho Havana Petites I just got was supposed to be boxed aged since '99 according to the CBid desciption, but nothing on the box or inserts will attest to that. I called Camacho and they said there was no way of telling, only that they were boxed on in '06. Cbid says that they ar boxed in '06 but sat in an aging room unboxed for 9 years. That is not what the description says.

Anyway, off track to say that CI is on the level meaning they are selling legit sticks of course, but you can't always trust what they tell you about them.

ANSWER!!

Recently I ordered sticks from Cigar King in Scottsdale, AZ. My primary purchase was Habana Leons. I received them today an was somewhat pissed when I opened the box. My box of HL's was bundled...no box...WTF.

Calm down Jason, there is a logical answer. I called Cigar King and spoke with Glen. Glen informed me that DPG is SWAMPED!!!!!. DPG's box makers can't keep up with his orders. I also asked him about the Blue label. He did say other people have mentioned this and it is due to growing pains.

If that's the case, you should not being paying for the price of the box than. Usually excluding the box takes a significant amount off the price. Just my

When I buy cigars, I buy cigars not the box. But if they take money off, it will only be a couple of dollars. But Pepin has no reason to take any money off because there isn't a box, his cigars will sell no matter what, box or not.

No, if you buy a box of cigars, you are paying for the box, and the cigars and every component that goes into that finished product. This includes, cello, ribbons, bands, tobacco, labor, etc...

So, what I mean is that part of the price you pay is packaging, that's a fact. The box adds cost, and more than a couple of dollars. You can find bundles and boxes of the same cigar, and the bundle is always cheaper. Example, CI has 20 bundles of REO for $39 and 20 Boxes of Reo for $62. I know a place that sells bundles of Edge for about $70, while a box cost about $90.

If they are advertising a box and not a bundle, I think that is a little misleading. Even if it was just a couple of dollars, that is still money coming out of yours and my pocket. If they, the retailer tells you these are bundles and you buy in full knowledge than that's fine.

I agree, Pepins will sell anyway, but then why do two 10 packs from CI specials sell so much cheaper than if you buy a box..

My point was that I don't buy cigars for the packaging, I buy them to smoke them and not show them off. Now CI is an awful company to give an example of prices because you have no idea what kind of deals they have with cigar companies, about getting things in bundles and boxes. It is very hard for me to believe that the box that REOs come in cost 23 dollars, there is something else up. I do believe they should tell you that this is in a bundle and explain that they are behind on boxes and that it isn't a second of some sort. Easy that those ten packs sell so much cheaper, CI buys a crap load off Pepin at a cheap price because he is behind on boxes and wants to get rid of his cigars, so he takes CI up on the deal and then they can offer them a lot lower price because they bought them at a lot lower price. Yes, you the consumer does pay some for the box, but to me it isn't that big of a deal. Presentation means nothing to me, if the cigar is good I will smoke it.

For me, it is a storage issue.

Exactly!

No one sees all my boxes stuffed into my Vino. This is not a vanity thing but a practical storage, and consumer cost issue to me. I think you'd be suprised how much packaging makes up the cost of finished goods. I do have an idea what deals they have, the same with any retailer and manufacturer, buy large quantities and get lower prices and specials. So CI is the perfect example to use for this. I can guarentee that if CI or any retailer, if selling bundles as boxes, are not paying the regular box price to the manufacturer.

I work for one of the largest manufacturers of household goods, specifically in merchandising and retail presence, but have worked in production and processing with the same company. I am quite familiar with raw material, labour and component cost that go into making and pricing finished goods. So my view on this is a little more than .

I brought this up in another Pepin thread. I have noticed a difference. The ones that have had a purple label I have found to be better. Don't know why, but just better flavor. Of course those came from shops that ensured the proper storage.

I agree. IMO, the new Blue's taste a little green. Maybe they will mellow over the next 6-12+ months.
