I am a true Pepin whore, but I'm puzzled.

Does the DPG Blue have 3 bands? The first generation was glossy, crisp (lettering), and almost purple. The second generation was glossy, crisp ,had a white (almost like an airbrush)patch, and was more like a normal blue. Today I received a band that is not glossy and the lettering is not crisp. I hope this is not the new band. It looks like something I could find at RiteAid. They better not be fake considering I bought them through Joe Cigar.

Help!

By the way, I have not smoked one yet. I've smoked hundreds of Blue's, so I will know the answer soon enough.

I have not bought any recently, but I have seen at least two different bands (probably the first two you described).

I noticed that also that the cigars from JC had an "odd looking" band.

I just fired up two cigars...suspect band and 2nd generation band.

Guess what, two different cigars. Suspect band had a very tight draw and burned poorly. Taste was different. 2nd generation band was pure in every way.

I removed the bands and examined them. Suspect band had wrong coloring and lacked the white depth striping throughout the band.

Before I contact CI, I would like a second opinion from some members who bought these...RJT, etc.

This is the first time I've tried to attach a pic. If it works,it is a poor pic. You should be able to see the color differences. The 3 sticks on the left side is the subject bands and the 3 bands on theright side are 2nd generation bands.

Did you light up the same size DPG blue label? Just wondering as the different sizes taste a little different.

Both sticks were from the same shipment. 20 suspect bands were in a bundle and the other 10 2nd generation singles were bagged. The entire shipment was 30 Generosos.

Was the deal for 10 or 20 generosos (I don't remember)? Did you pull the trigger three times?

It is entirely possible that the 10 were six months old (or three or nine) and the 20 were from a newer batch. This might explain the taste and burn difference as the ten have had time to rest and might be at a better RH. I would give them a couple of weeks in the humidor and see if that changes anything.

I highly doubt anyone would fake a DPG blue label.
