Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
I hope this doesn't sound like a newbie question but am I supposed to remove the cello before I smoke the cigar?
![]() Sorry can't help myself - OK off to work, long week and I think I'm getting giddy.

Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
I concur with everyone else! And whoever told you such things as you have heard (which sound like they might've come from a "real life" person rather than all of us fake internet people) is silly! But don't tell 'em we said that.
Cello on is best. Just makes it easier to insure you wont be nicking the wrappers (particularly on the foot of the cigar), and has no adverse effects whatsoever. As to the comment suggesting that cello-wrapped cigars are likely to damage non-wrapped cigars if stored in the same compartment, I don't particularly think that's a big issue. I can see the possibility of a cello "corner" being more likely to damage a nearby cigar... but that shouldn't be a problem unless you FORCIBLY root through your cigars, lol. If you're reasonably gentle when you're moving cigars around, that won't be a problem. (Although if you have the room... there's certainly no harm in keeping 'em separated, eliminating as much risk as possible...) I always keep the cello on all my cigars, because sometimes when I can't decide on a cigar... I just like pick up the humi, shake the crap out of it, and then pick out a cigar, all with my eyes closed! Surprise!

Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
If you leave the cello on, won't it increase the time needed to equalize out it's humidity? I would think it takes more time for humidity to pass through the wrapper AND the cello.

Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
Let me get this right. I do not need dividers. I can put all my cigars together,mixed-up,and keep them in their cello. They will age and everything will be fine.

Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
I'm not one to rely on wikipedia as the final source of info, but under that particular definition of cellophane, it is claimed that "Cellophane's low permeability to air, grease and bacteria makes it useful for food packaging."
So while it may breathe, it may not breathe to the extent that all cigar smokers would wish. YMMV. |

![]() I remove the cello on some cigars that have higher chances to mold like my anejos. The rest I keep in the cello simply due to my re-arranging my humi every now and then to add or remove some sticks. It gives me a little more insurance to make sure I don't damage them when I move them. Plus the cello on some of my sticks looks cool, like all of the my perdomo reserves that have red, or yellow cello.

Re: Keeping different cigars from touching
Excellent idea! Any chance of the ink "fumes" seeping through the cello? T Kindly IA

Probably... but I like to live 'dangerously'...
j/k i let the ink dry before i put it back in the humi to reduce the amount of fumes.

That's one other nice thing about cellophane though. It will keep your cigars more stable in terms of RH. While it will breath, it will tend to protect cigars from being over-humidified too quickly, and also protect them from drying out too quickly. I did an experiment years ago where I took two cellophane'd cigars out of my humidor, then I took the cello off of one of them, and let them both sit for a day or so in very dry winter air. The cigar out of cello dried out much quicker, as you might expect. It works both ways, though. Expose those same two cigars to very humid air, and the cellophane'd cigar would also soak up the moisture slower. This is exactly what you'd want, something that would regular the effect of moisture on a cigar.
