Already converted one bro and still working on another and a cousin or ours. I think the key is trying to find one that suits their taste. Going by personal experience I started them with the smaller RyJ's which for the most part seem to be working.

Maybe that's my problem, I like stronger smokes. Maybe I should throw a few very light cigars in my humidor for future campaigns.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I am a 20 year cigarette smoker and still smoke them when I'm at work and have no time for a gar. Once I get home I may smoke one or two in the evening, but find that by smoking a cigar, it cuts way back on the 'rettes. I figure that is a good thing since I don't inhale the stogie.

Smile Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I quit smoking cigarettes on July 31st, 2005. Its now Oct 2nd and I have a $2k a month Cigar habit. Obsess much? Nah!

I have never tried to convert a smoker from anything. I wouldnt have it when I was smoking why should I try to foist it on someone else. I have quit a lot of things, I'm going on my 15th year of being drug and alcohol free and the one thing I have learned is you quit when your ready not when forced.

Yes, and I'm still trying. She liked it so much, she's now officially a "Cigar Ho" like me, but for the fact that she hasn't yet given up the horrid and filthy habit of inhaling putrid 4th rate shards of chemically preserved, machine processed tobacco additives.

Cigarettes are to Cigars what SPAM is to an aged Fillet Mignon.

Very well said, I quit smoking over a month ago and I think your right when you say that a person can only quit when they are ready. Also, congrats on being drug and alcohol free for 15 years. I don't want to even think of how hard that would be.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

Nope. I literally cannot stand to smell cigarette smoke. I know very few people that smoke cigarettes, and never in my presence. I just quietly leave, or don't go there. I hate to be that way, but just cannot stomach the stench.

I quit June 2 2005 after about 20 years of cig smoking too. I didn't have any tobacco for a month or so thereafter. Then went to cigars on occasion. Then went to almost nightly. So many to try in so little time!!

I have tried to convert two friends and failed both times. The main reason that they still go for cigs is the time factor. They need a quick fix when at work and a cig is only 4-5 minutes vs. over an hour for many somkes. I then tried shorter smokes on them, but they tried to smoke them fast and got turned off by the bitterness.
BTW... I agree that cig smoke smells like open a$$. I will NEVER go back!

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

Only myself. I quit cigarettes because they reduced my wind and destroyed my pallette. Cigars are a less pressured smoke. I smoke when I want a cigar, not when I need one. I never wake up needing a fix. I go to work and have one with my second cup of coffee not my first. On the weekend I don't smoke until the afternoon or evening. I would hate to really try to convert anyone other that just gently because I remember the holier than thou attitude of the ex-smokers.

Same here, but he would go for Lucky Strikes and call them a petite corona. He thought Pal Mal was a muduro smoke.
