Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

Well, I gave it my best shot. We have two of my stepsons friends staying with us, and one of them was curious about my cigars. So I gave him my smallest, lightest smoke, but of course he had a hard time not inhaling. He gave up after about 25% of the stick. Well I tried!! Anyone else ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker? Share your stories!!!

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I'm a cigarette smoker who's almost converted. I do still have a cigarette every once in a while, but I really look forward to sitting down with a cigar now. And yeah, the not-inhaling thing is a little difficult to get used to!

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

The Herfing Hamster is a reformed smoker. Although I actually had quit smoking a while before I started smoking cigars on a regular basis, so I didn't really "convert" to cigars from cigarettes. Don't get me wrong - I still like cigarettes. I really do. Smoking cigarettes was a very enjoyable experience for me, and I still have a cigarette when I'm enjoying a few beers. But I guess I just started to notice that the years and the smoking and the overall unhealthy lifestyle were starting to get to me - I just wasn't feeling very healthy. So I did an entire lifestyle overhaul, and the cigarettes had to go when I did that.
Not inhaling was a bit wierd to me the first few cigars I had, however, I've had a couple of cigars recently that put any cigarette nicotine buzz to shame - even without inhaling.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I'm still in the process of converting. I'll vote when I get results. He likes cigars, especially when I point out to him what to look for in a good cigar. He really loves the culture aspect of it. I just need to start him on something milder than what I've given my friend. He'll convert soon enough IMO. He's been looking for a way to quit for some time now. I think he likes the idea of quitting cigarettes, but, still being able to smoke.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I myself am a converted smoker. I just quit 2 weeks ago and I'm having one cigar a day. I'm surprised that it isn't much more harder, don't get me wrong, it's no cake walk. I did go for hypno therapy and it really has worked. I smoked cigarettes for 15 years. I am now cigarette smoke-free and proud.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I've tried to covert cigarette smokers before. I've found that they cant seem to puff the cigar right or they inhale the smoke. So after a few tries they give up.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

Its hard for cigarette smokers to get over the habit of inhaling. So when they try stogies, they usually inhale too much and get turned off.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

Got my best friend a box of ERDM Robustos for his birthday, no turning back to cigs for him. He smokes them occasionaly (cigs) and says they taste like paper! He has even cut back on cigar smoking and only smokes about 1-2 per week.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I'm 1 for 3 on conversions. One buddy I've almost got all the way to cigars, he only smokes cigarettes at work when he can take a 5 min break. The other two are a no-go. One won't even try em and the other doesn't trust anything he can't inhale.

Re: Ever tried to convert a cigarette smoker?

I have tried numerous times to convert my brother. He has been smoking vile cigarettes for over five years. He will almost always take a cigar, smoke and enjoy most if not all of it, but he will not give up the Class -A(ss) cigarettes.

I tried, and the man quit after a third of it. I was like damn, that might the last time I ever do this. Still brings a tear to my eye, that my little stick didnt get smoked.

There is nothing worse than seeing a good cigar get wasted on a bad person.
