Does 9 months ever make a difference?

I've got a bunch that I'm getting ready to crack into - mostly various Rocky Patels - that I've been sitting on for about 9 months. I wonder if they'll taste any different than they did last July. I wonder if I should leave them longer.

I have only found aging benefits Habanos. I have some NC's which have over 2 yrs of age on them and they don't taste any different than the fresh ones to me.

Almost all ISOM's will change with aging, but many like the taste of a fresh stick(see 07 Upmann Mag46). With NC's its kind of hit and miss. Padilla and Pepins in general will smoke better with a bit of age to them. I have not noticed to be the case with most RP blends or Oliva's. Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

Great point, Darrell!!! That is the first legitimate statement I've heard about NCS!!! It makes sense! I will go ahead & smoke all my NCS instead of waiting several months. I did seem to notice that my JR Ultimates smoked better after 3 months rest, but I haven't noticed any difference after the 3 month period. Thanks again for the advice!

I've had mixed results with things aged 1-2 years. There are a lot of aging posts on here, but not much info on aging "short" amounts of time. Maybe I'll be the one to post something on that.

I think it is hit and miss. I find that cigars that are somewhat harsh fresh mellow and out and become great sticks. LGC, Pepin, Tatuaje, Trinidad, Joya de Nics, Opus, RyJ EL '07s to name a few. There are some out there that befit from age you just have to find the right ones.

IMO, aging benefits any good cigars, irregardless of origin. It really depends on how you define "benefits". Some really strong cigars (opus power ranger, ryj cazadores, punch ss2) loses strength and mellow with age. Does 9 months matter? It depends on the cigar. There's really no hard and fast rule as to how much age a cigar needs to get better. Smoke away and enjoy what you have now.

That's because in that time it's not "aging", it's resting. Usually, aging refers to several years, at least.

I have had wonderful results with aged Padrons, Torano's and Tats. Most of the Pepin stuff is better after some rest as well. Most Pepins are too new to be considered aged, imo.

I'll have to disagree...but only a little: Gurhka seem to really benefit from a 6+ month(s) nap.

Virtually every cigar I have smoked has benefited from sitting 4+ months. Some just 'stabilize' and taste good, some get really amazing after 6-18 months. In my experience, the 'cheapies' get good at 6-9 months and go downhill from there. Quality sticks get better and better, but gain the most in 9-12 months.
