relighting
how do u properly relight a cigar? ive chucked a couple sticks out just because after i relit it, the flavor turned really bitter and nasty. is there a proper way to do it?
ive tried ashing it and then relighting it as i would if it were new. ive reheated the ash to get it relit, surprised it worked really but didnt help with the flavor. ive also puffed a cigar back to life. i did some searching on the site and havent found too much specifically about relighting. purging is something that i found and that hasnt truly helped me out yet. how do u guys do it? aside from not letting it go out to begin with, of course. |

Re: relighting
Relighting AFTER it's out?
Well, you clear out as much of the head and loose ash by blowing on it and then commence to relighting with your preferred lighting method. Sometimes I get a "steel ball pluggage", or at least it seems like it, and I have to remove it with my Swiss Army Knife, but then after that I just relight. If the cigar is a dog rocket and you plain ol just don't like it.................no relighting will help it!!

Re: relighting
Good evening, valid question and one I have asked before as well.
If you use the search you will find some good info, actually on my first thread I got the following: Raisin Re: Cigars at Work Don't put them in a tubo, or any closed container for that matter! This just marinates the cigar in it's own bitter juice's. Clip off the coal, purge, and set it down in the best circumstances possible (those little metal stands are great). Cigar's can be passable when relit after this regimen... Havana lover Re: Cigars at Work If its been out for more then a 5 or 10 mins I dont relight.. dont like the taste, sorry.. But Tubberware might work chuck it in there and take it back inside.. What I have learned there are two schools of thought - if it just goes out on you while smoking no big deal, it happens to all of us - either light it back up directly or cut the burnt section off, relight without pulling the smoke through (just using the air in your mouth) and purge a few times and enjoy. If it has been sitting for a while, i.e. - more than 20 or 30 minutes I now agree with havana lover - I didnt when he wrote it but I do know. Good luck! |

"steel ball pluggage"
That cracked me up - maybe its just late but it cracked me up - nights like this make my laptop smell like cigars when I get back into the office. |

Re: relighting
I tend to re-light often. Knock off any loose ash - light it up and then gently blow out through the cigar a time or two. Works for me anyway.

Re: relighting
I relight as well sometimes. Often it's within 30minutes. I usually just knock of a little ash (leave some on), and lay the flame to the wrapper around the ash, and then directly on the ash, getting the tip of the unburned tobacco going again. Don't puff too fast when you relight, cause then it will go harsh and you'll have a face somewhere on camera cause it'll just happen that you'll friend will have a camera posed to go right at that moment.

Re: relighting
thanks for the responses.
my situations werent that i was stopping and leaving it sit for half an hour. its more than i wasnt paying attention and it just went out. thats y ive been able to puff it back before. on some occasions the cigar really wasnt worth the relight but some of them i actually was enjoying just got distracted. then the relight turned it really bitter. ill keep trying as it happens. dunno y i cant salvage my smokes. ![]() |

It just went out because you weren't paying attention. Couple things: 1). Puff more often 2). Check humidity in your humi. The cigar may be to moise causing it to stop burning while you are smoking.

yep def because i wasnt paying attention. but sometimes things just get in the way. cigars were purchased recently from a b&m. still working on getting a good humi and some beads so i can start storing it properly. maybe the right rh, on top of me paying better attention to what im doing, will solve the issue of it going out. then i wont need to relight at all. thanks again for everyones help. |
