How long can you leave a cigar out the humi?

Ok - newbie question here but I did a search and didn't find anything specific so hopefully not asked before - feel free to point me in the right direction if it has though!

I visited my folks at the weekend and took a couple of sticks along with me as they have a nice garden etc. to sit in while smoking. In the end, I only got through one due to time commitments so the other one came back with me and went back in the humi - my question is, how bad is this?

It was out from Friday evening until Sunday evening just in a leather case and it felt a little dry when I put it back. I'm worried that this is too long out the humi and should I be concerned? Also, if it is too long and it has dried out the stick, how long should I leave it until it's smokeable again?

I should add, not keen to ditch it as it looks like a nice Romeo y Julieta!

Thanks,

Gylen

I would not be concerned for it , considering that the amount of time was short.. You hear of people finding sticks that have been out for weeks or longer and then letting them rest in an optimum holding area(humi) with no ill effects to be found. and since the time was short I bet a few days will be ok

Re: How long can you leave a cigar out the humi?

You should be fine. A lot of guys actually prefer a more dry cigar to help avoid burning issues. I've carried a weeks supply in nothing but a leather case before and by the end of the week my smokes get a little more dry than I like, but once fired up, they still smoke fine. When you run into problems is when they dry out completely over a very long time. Once the oils in the stick have dried up and evaporated you won't get the full flavors back.

Smoke it when you're ready and enjoy!

Three days in a leather case, I doubt you would detect any change in flavor, and if you did, you might like it. One of the best cigars I've smoked recently was a padron 2000, it that had been in my cigar case unhumidified for almost two weeks, It smoked like a champ. Cigars in my opinion are not nearly as fragile as we sometimes think.

I had the left-overs of a box of ERDM's that sat in a cupboard above a work bench in my garage for over a year. Ran across them one day, smoked out fine...even sported a nice plume.

A lot would depend on the environment. If the native RH is 60-70% you can leave the stick out for a very long period of time with little to no ill effects. If you were visiting a desert with a >10% RH your sticks will dry out much faster.

Re: How long can you leave a cigar out the humi?

Your question is almost impossible to answer because it mostly depends on what the weather conditions are.

If you did this in southern Arizona, you cigar would be a dried out piece of garbage but if this happened to you in Florida, you would never notice the difference.

Where did this happen and what was the approximate relative humidity and temperature for the days when you left your cigar exposed to the weather?

Gylen

I routinely leave a few cigars in a leather cigar case in my car and smoke them while commuting--so some have as long as a week outside of the humi. I have never had a problem regardless of season here in New England.

Yeah I've left cigars out in their cellophane for days and they're always fine. If you're worried, I would just leave it in the humi for another few days and all is good!

Until it burns your fingers!

Seriously, in Missouri they will last a long time. In Az I had not trouble carrying them around for a couple of rounds of golf.
