A little guidance in cigar tastes

Hey guys I'm new to the community, hope my welcome isn't too flame filled

Found these forums during my quest to build a large sized humidor (my small one is just not cutting it anymore.) And also discovered the magical humidity beads too.

Sooooo... I was wondering if some of you guys might be able to help guide me a little bit, as my local shop guy isn't too knowledgeable with cigars, even though he has an amazing selection.

I've been indulging for the past 2 years, but mainly stuck to the generic bands. Here's a quick rundown of my usual smokes.

rocky patel 1990
ashton
MC's #3 - currently probobly my favorite cigar.
macanudos -started off on this cigar, but lately I have not been enjoying them, not enough flavor.
aurora 1495 - got a box of these and loved them.

the only time i've asked for a little advice from my cigar guy, he suggested a cigar that i ended up hating, the cusano 18 yr maduro. Really didn't like it, almost no flavor to that cigar.

Any suggestions?

also after i posted i realised i had a question, these cigars that i listed, what kind of smokes would most of them be classified as? medium?

I'd suggest trying some CAO brand. I personally like most all of them. For some smooth light flavors, I found the Fire by Indian Tabac and the Carlos Torano Signature to be distinct, with out the "flavored" feel.

Here is what I did in the begining a bit...

Read reviews on the cigars you do like. See what the common characteristics are. I found that I tend to like cigars that people find tones of coffee, chocolate and vanilla in. Then ask or read reviews on new cigars.

I used to buy a ton of singles at the B&M, another great way to discover new smokes.

Tatuaje Havana VI Angeles

Those are four different taste profiles you could try.

Here is a little Guidance: While you wait, maybe try the New Gorilla Forum and make an introduction and let the Jungle know a little about yourself. Also take some time to read the 'Stickies'.

Just smoke everything you can get your hands on, if you like it buy more, if not pitch it.

Well, I started out by smoking each brand's "known" cigar (I'm missing the word, but I meant the cigar those brands are known for; famous cigars from each brand); then, told the blokes down at local B&Ms the ones I liked so they got an idea and, from there, made suggestions. After that came the read reviews to buy others, buy out of hunches, and it goes on and on. Smoke lots of singles and buy samplers if ye can.

My advice is to smoke everything you can get your hands on, and keep a journal of some sort so you don't froget which ones you like. Thats the great part of this hooby. You can smoke a different cigar every day for the rest of your life and never smoke the same one twice.

I have to agree with what's been said already. Just buy and smoke whatever you can, keep notes of some sort, and most of all have fun!!

Look for blends that you already enjoy ie same binder, filler and wrapper and go from there. Another thing I do when at my local B&M is I go through the humidor looking for boxes that are low on cigars and take one. I figure if other people like them I might to. Doesn't always work but this is how i found Torano Casas. Also don't declare a stick no good on one taste. I will try a second stick provided the first wasn't repulsive. Remember that taste is subjective and have fun.
