Wouldn't this only be an accurate statement if the cigar was at the "correct" humidity level when the band was put on? Considering that most cigars are rolled with moist leaves and then aged an indeterminant amount of time, there's no way of knowing. A loose or tight band would only mean that the current moisture content of the cigar is different than when it was put on - not neccessarily too dry or too wet.

Good point, but I would hope the cigar had a higher H2O content when rolled then when I'm going to light it for my smoking pleasure. I believe that they dampen the leaf's a bit with their fingers so they roll a bit eaiser don't they? So wouldn't that make the moisture content some what higher when there rolled? If that's the case I would have to believe that over time when they start to dryout some the band would get loose (unless it's stuck on the cigar). But if they are still high in moisture then the band would be pretty tight.
I'm no expert by any means, just trying to think this through? I'm sure I 'm wrong somewhere though!!!!!

Yeah I know what you mean, and my head hurts from it! It's got me puzzled.

I remove bands before I smoke and can't say any were on tighter or looser.

My ride home today smoked fine, a Sancho Panza maduro box pressed
