Do I have to chuck this smoke?

I was fooling around with the band of a smoke and I believe that it tore a decent sized chunk of the wrapper underneath the band. Is that cigar basically garbage or can I do something to salvage it?

Re: Do I have to chuck this smoke?

It might be able to be saved. As long as the binder is intact your cool.

What you can do is hit the local store and get some pectin that is used for canning. A little goes a LONG way, but it makes a good safe glue to hold things in place. Jut mix a small about with water and apply lightly and sparingly. And it isn't that expensive.

Heck it might be just fine as it is as long as you go easy while smoking. Not a lot fo rolling around and such.

Re: Do I have to chuck this smoke?

Warhorse has it right. If the binder is still intact, it will probably smoke normal. On cigars where the damage is close to the cap, and the binder lets in air, I can usually hold a finger tip over the bad area and smoke normally. Unless the stogie is some special type, it should have a solid binder that will allow normal smokin'

Good luck

Smoke her, if she pisses you off, then trash her. If it's long cigar you could always clip above the band and just lick under the wrapper when it starts to raise.

Re: Do I have to chuck this smoke?

I've seen wrapper repair kits with small sheets of tobacco and vegetable glue, etc. If I can remember the name, I'll add a post. Pectin is a good idea, too. I guess it depends where the spot is.

Another option: as long as the size of the tear isn't too big, you could use a piece of the cap that you cut off. Just moisten the piece with some spit and stick it over the tear. If the piece is fairly flat, it'll hold pretty well.

Re: Do I have to chuck this smoke?

Or you could just send it to me and I can check and see if it's still smokeable for you...

Seriously, just light that sucker and puff away...the pectin thing can be found with the canning supplies in your grocery store if you decide to go that route...it's called Certo Liquid Pectin...actually, it's made from fruit but has no taste...makes great cigar glue...if the wrapper is too badly damaged to repair you could always carefully take the rest of it off and smoke it anyway...it won't be pretty with just the binder showing but will still smoke pretty well...

Re: Do I have to chuck this smoke?

Sound good guys will do. I'm asking because I bought a box of 25 that was hit with worms and in my newbie naivete, I chucked all of them save two rather than putting them in the freezer.

I'm still pissed about that...

You should have kept them, sent them back to where they came from, and got a refund. By "worms", do you mean beatles?
