Question Quick Humi/Cigar Question

Hey everyone. I just got a nice 100 count humi the other day and had the 50/50 sol in the resevoir and a cup of water in it for 24 hours to season it. It was reading just over 70-72% so i took the cup out and left the lid open for a few minutes. Then i closed it w/ just the 50/50 in it for an hour or so and the RH rose up to like 68-69. I assumed this was good. Also, with the humi i got 75 free cigars that im sure had to have been dry. They werent in a box or anything, just 3 bundles of 25 wrapped in the plastic stuff. I added them and it still reads like 68 or 69% and its only been about a day. Ive tried putting the hygrometer in different places and it stays within 3 or 4% of 70. Are the cigars actually humidified up to 70 already or could the gauge be reading the ambient humidity in the box? I just added a few of my nicer cigars that were not free and i dont want to dry them out or anything. What do you think. It's Thurs. now and I am gonna smoke an MX2 at a poker party on Friday night. I think i may take it out and put it in my 20 count humidor that i have had for awhile and that is deffinately reading the correct humidity. That way it wont dry that one out if the other cigars are sucking humidity up. But should i remove my other nicer cigars too, or do you think that the 70% ambient humidity will keep them humidified enough? All 75 free cheaper cigars are on the bottom of the humi and my 12 expensive ones are on the shelf right under the resevoir. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As long as you keep the humidifier filled 50/50 with solution/water in the humi, you should be fine to add your smokes. I think. The FOGs will chime in with a more informed opinion, I'm sure.

Youre gonna be ok. I think the free cigars werent really that dry. And since its been a day and the Humidity has stayed 68 or 69% I dont see any problem. If the cigars were really very dry they would have lowered the humidity by now but no. Just keep a close look to the humidity for a few more days and check the humidification device doesnt dry out. But I think you should be fine

Re: Quick Humi/Cigar Question

As long as the humidity in the humidor is in that range, the better cigars you added will be just fine. If you notice a big drop in the humidity, then take them out; otherwise, don't worry. Also, many people like their cigars a bit drier (between 60% - 65%), so feel free to experiment a bit with the humidity level until you find what you think works best for you.

As to the other 75, if they were fairly dry before you raised the humidity in the humidor, then let them sit a while before you smoke them.

Digital hygrometer or analog? I could set my analog to 70 and put it in the Sahara and the needle wouldn't budge.

Re: Quick Humi/Cigar Question

thanks guys for the help. Also, it is an analog hygrometer. but it moves pretty well. ive also salt tested it a few times and it is right on. also i have a bead type thing in the other 20 count humidor and it stays right around like 68-69 so i think it is pretty close to right on. and it is staying around the same with the 50/50 solution in it in the new humi. but if i open the lid just for a minute or so the needle starts to drop and everything so i do believe it is working fairly well, well at least as well as an analog hygrometer would work. Thanks again.

I think that I have the same humidor ... I bought from CubanCrafters bundled with 75 cigars and a cutter ... The humidor is excellent and very stable. I seasoned it only 24 hours and after than that, checked it also with my digital hygrometer and saw that the analog hygro also was correct. I think that your cigars are safe ... Btw, a few of the torpedos were very dry and their wrappers were cracked, but it's not a problem cause I bought all of them as 88$ total, it's a real bargain and smoked all of them. I liked the torpedos ... The others, 50 pcs of churchills are very different as taste and quality but smokeable.

Hope this helps, this is a beautiful forum

Re: Quick Humi/Cigar Question

First - I think that your smokes will be ok. I had a 100ct that I thought would suffice until I went past my second month at CS, and several visits to JR auctions and cbid. I now have a 500ct that may end up being supplanted this year depending upon my wife's tolerance for my new found obsession. I would agree with statements from others here. Be patient.

Carlos is correct... personally the 3%-4% diffrence isnt gonna make that big a diffrence. As long as the humi is holding 65%-73% rock solid you are good to go.
