Auctions

Maybe I'm missing something here. Why on earth do people bid more than retail for cigars on auctions? What I mean by retail is bidding more on cigar bid than the cigar can be purchased for at CI. Or bidding more on cigar auctioneer than the cigar can be purchased for at Famous. Also, in some cases you get free shipping from CI, Famous, and other sites. I just don't get it.

Re: Auctions

I've noticed this to be a rather rampant condition. I think they just get caught up in bidding... Gotta have it! and don't check around first...

Re: Auctions

I think a lot of people are comparing prices to their local B&M so it feels like a great savings even if, well, it's not.

Re: Auctions

It's those idiots that help the bottom line and keep the auctions going strong.
Long live the idiots, as long as they don't bid against me

Re: Auctions

There is a perfect example of this on CB right now. There is a 5 pack of Cubao #6s that has been bid up to $33. The 5 pack price on CI is $32!!! I know it is not much but it is crazy. For most stuff I figure I will go no more than about 70% of retail.

This one is a bit easier to understand.
If they already won something, they may be trying to take advantage of the shipping cost already factored in for their other winning (especially since the free shipping from CI is not as common knowledge).

It's the retail price + shipping price + some overage bids that completely baffle me (aka., anything ashton, padron, AF, etc...).

Sometimes I'm tempted to use those little comment fields in the bids to say "hey, these retail for $XXX!". But then I figure, screw it, let them waste their money.

Re: Auctions

Are you telling that you would rather pay retail than win an auction by overbiding?

I love the fact that one guy had a CBid guy next to his name which means he was willing to bid even higher!
