No, I think he's talking about the RyJ Churchill Tubos, they come either way and most like the tubos better.

I've only had one from my 05 box and even though it's very young it shows great promise.

These are recommended by several of the elders here but will may require a long nap before reaching their full flavor profile.

The only Cuban Churchill I haven't been a fan of so far is HdM. RyJ is a fine cigar and one of the benchmarks for the vitola. Tubos in any of the Churchills seems to be prefered, the extra cedar adds to an armoatic smell and taste. As long as it's not too young or tight, you'll love the RyJ.

You are correct. That is what I was referring to.
Don't quite know what makes the difference but I have had both and swear by the tubos. For my personal taste, worth paying the extra money.
That is not to say I didn't care for the non-tubos. They are both great cigars.

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

You guys are not going to believe it......once again I wasn't able to smoke my RYJ Churchill last night

its still perched up on my shelf, next to my Montecristo Tubo waiting to be smoked. I bought my butane torch lighter and cutter a week ago now....and neither have been used for their intended purposes yet!!

Well....third time, maybe i'll be ok to smoke it tonight

I hope the tubes will keep these 2 cigars quite fresh :S i've been taking the RYJ out of the tube quite often just to touch it, hold it and smell it....which can't be good for the poor cigar

I find the RyJ Churchill tubos to be very good smokes. As was alluded to above, I have had a few that had a very firm draw. But, when they have a decent draw, they are one of my benchmark cigars.

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

ok, no more kidding around or waiting. The RYJ Churchill is getting smoked tonight.....for definate, while i do some late night revison.

i can see myself now, going over my notes, big cigar, cloud of cigar smoke curling up into the air above ma heed

looking forward to it very much so.

One quick question: Remember me saying I have a butane torch lighter, well, how can I light the cigar correctly without literally charring/destroying the end of the cigar?? any pointers?

thanks guys

Don't let the flame touch the cigar...........keep it slightly away while twirling the cigar in your fingers.......toasting the foot evenly as you puff. This should do the trick.

enjoy

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

Ok, from what's happend today, I think its clear that i definatly need practice lighting cigars properly with a butane lighter.

Since I still havne't smoked my RYJ like i said i would, i've been practicing on some cheap Henri Winterman Half Corona cigars instead. I always get an uneven burn and i'm sure i'm doing somting wrong.

are there any diagrams anywhere that display how to correctly light a cigar using a butane lighter? i'm afraid i'll ruin my RJY Churchill or my Montecristo's if i put my butane lighter to them, and that i DON'T want to happen

any further help guys?

ps: sorry for being a nusience . lol

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

some folks will do what I said above except that they will lightly toast the foot without puffing..........practice make perfect.

also, the humidity level will also dictate how a cigar burns.......if it's too wet, it's not going to burn properly.........I like to smoke em' around 65%

here is a thread I found using the search function.........most information can be found this way

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

I had a very bad thing happen today...perhaps disastrous.

I took my RYJ outta its tube, and used my new cutter to cut it. That was the first bad thing. I did as I was instructed, went for a quick and swift cut, and bang, wrapper gets frigging torn....i was pissed.

Next, i go to light it with my butane lighter, turning slowly, not holding it into the flame. bloody thing then doesn't light. after what seems an eternity, it lights and i begin to smoke it.

Due to mistakes on my part however, this was NOT a good cigar this time round to have. The draw was poor and not much happend when i tried to take one.

At least when i lit my last montecristo with a normal lighter, it lit very quickly and was a good smoke. I'm quite dissapointed with the results.

I think a new double bladed cutter would be a better idea

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

sounds plugged..........I doubt if anything you did ruined the cigar.

I carry a cigar poker for plugged high-end cigars. If a cheapee is plugged, I usually pitch it, no biggie. If a cuban or domestic primo is plugged, I'll try to salvage the draw with a poker. Sometimes it works great, sometimes not at all.

Plugged cigars suck, plain and simple.

Re: This should be a good one...I hope

I feel so angry the way things turned out....a perfect cigar, ruined

next time, i think i'll just stick with a normal lighter. going through the motitons with a butane lighter i think is just too much hassle. When i lit my first montecristo with a normal lighter, everything went smoothly despite me virtually sticking the end into the flame
