V-cut Pros / Cons ?
Hey guys
I had my first V-cut today was woundering what your guys thoughts on it is? I was smoking a La Flor Duoble liegero 4.5" 54ring I was kinda supprised thought it would be alot worse I normaly use my xikar cutter but wanted to try the v-cut for a while Now i also own a punch and use it only on certin cigars (ex punch rare cojo rothchild) dont know why just like it with certin cigars. What are the pros and cons of a v-cut? Can the v-cut be used on all ring sizes? or do you need a special one? Can you suggest a decient v-cutter? also what do you look for in one? any comments or suggestions are welcome thanks |

Re: V-cut Pros / Cons ?
I've used V cutters in the past and have had no problems with them. The Cut is usually deeper into the head, but smaller on the wings. I've not had any problems with the draw from the V cut either. The cutter I used was the one the shop had, which was made by Boston Cigar Cutters. Look on http://www.bostoncigarcutter.com for the Classic model. They are usually pretty high in price, around $500+ but I've seen some on EBay before. The one thing I saw my tobaccoist do was cut the head with the wrapper still on it. I personally do not like this done to my cigars. I too have several cutters and punches that I carry around, and like you, depending on the cigar, I will use a specific one. I plan to purchase one of the Classics once I buy my own house.

Re: V-cut Pros / Cons ?
I have used a $3 V cutter with good results. I like the V cut on a cigar that draws well.

Re: V-cut Pros / Cons ?
You are correct, they are called the "Little Guys" and seel on the site for $150. My old dealer in Chicago had these and I never tried them out. I am sure you can find them at a local shop.

I have this one. It was great for a while. The cut portion does not empty well after the cut. You sometimes have to find some way to poke the scrapes it out of the cutter. It also dulled quickly for me. I did take it apart and sharpen it with so-so results. Someone who knows more about sharpening could probably do better. I still use it occasionaly. Some people also have a problem with some cigars building up tar with the V cut. I have never experienced this though. YMMV |

Re: V-cut Pros / Cons ?
I also have one like this but in in black plastic instead of wood.
what ive seen with V-cutters is you have to cut it with fast and firmly cause if you dont do it carefully you can damage the cigar. I personally like the draw from the V cut, and never had problems with tar or bad flavors but almost always use a regular double blade guillotine.
