Please educate me.

Are 'fumas' by definition a short/mixed/sandwich filler, or is that just a common usage of the term? All the ones I've looked at recently have been, but that's certainly not definitive. I also realize that some manufacturers will often toss terms around with little to no regard for how they're normally used. Do you know of any pure long-filler fumas as contra-examples, or would that be an oxymoron?

I'm just trying to get smart(er).

From Cigar.com

Quote:
A Fuma is typically a whatever the factory manager wants to make but the ones for sale are most often a long corona or lonsdale and also have a twisted or flagged head for the cap. While the definition says nothing about a sandwich, most of the makers that are marketing a fuma are making it a sandwich, most likely to keep the price down.
I dont know how accurate this is.

Close enough. Thanks. Seems like most the time when I try to Google cigar stuff, most of what comes up are people with something to sell, and that trips all my defense circuits so I tend to not believe any of it. One of the major attractions of CS for me was being able to get information. I didn't think to check cigar.com.

Re: Please educate me.

I that statement is pretty accurate. There are NO standards for NC sizes or descriptions. You will find wide variances in most sizes names like Churchill, Toro, Torpedo, etc. Many dont even use standard names or consistency in a lineup. Illusione has 68, 88, CG-4, MK and many other names, Davidoff uses mainly numbers. If you really are concerned with the actual construction, check multiple sources including possibly the manufacturer's site.
Personally, I am more concerned with flavor and taste. As long as the word "homogenized" is not in the description.

Re: Please educate me.

I was wondering about this today so I did a search and found others had the same question before I found the site. I thought I would send it back into play for the other new BOTL!

Re: Please educate me.

A fuma is a generic term for a cigar just referred to as a "smoker", as was originally whatever the employees smoked, ie whatever was left over, or they rolled for themselves. Since they were frequently seconds or discards, the term has come to be associated with a cheap or substandard smoke. It does not imply any specific vitola, blend etc.
