Having trouble with taste...
Hello, I tried my first two cigars during the last week, and... they taste the same? (taboo twist and padron 3k). I keep on getting this coal-y boot taste. I'm trying to light it slow and turning it, but i'm using a BIC lighter, could this be the problem?

Re: Having trouble with taste...
Don't use a bic lighter, ever. You need a torch lighter that uses butane. The fuel in your bic very much has an effect on your smoking.

Re: Having trouble with taste...
I thought bics were filled with butane. I never noticed a wierd taste from them.

Re: Having trouble with taste...
The only time I use a Bic for cigars is when traveling
and leave my torches at home. I never noticed any unusual taste from them, but they are inferior as a cigar lighter. |

Bic is a butane lighter.

Re: Having trouble with taste...
so... if bic is a butane lighter, what else could I be doing wrong? skip the toasting the foot to see if it helps? light it more carefully so that the flame doesn't touch the cigar? try some more cigars?

Re: Having trouble with taste...
You could be burning your tongue? I recently began smoking pipes/cigars, and had a similiar problem.

Re: Having trouble with taste...
Don't dip the foot/tuck of the cigar into the flame. This can carbonize the end of the cigar & give it an off flavor (might explain the coal flavor). Do a search on flame purging also. Flame purging can help the flavor by burning off the excess gasses in the cigar.

Try smoking a little slower you might just be hammering it.

Re: Having trouble with taste...
I usually torch my cigar before cutting it. I heard that it helps reduce the chance of drawing odors from the lighter into the cigar. So far it seems to work for me.
