RH - what's the best percentage ?

I've done a few searches but nothing I've found has really answered my question. So, what is the ideal humidity for cigars ? I understand this is partially a preference and there is no golden rule, but what's everyones experience ?

My two humidors with regular green foam humidifiers usually sit around 68% RH. I'm getting a little tired of the green foam s***, so I went ahead and bought a few Heartfelt BLUE CAP tubes. Now, I understand these are 65% RH beads in these tubes. Is this too low of an RH or should my sticks be fine ? I've got no problem experimenting with them and seeing if I notice a different in how my sticks smoke (probably won't, just me being paranoid ), but I shouldn't be doing any damage, right ? That isn't TOO low of an RH to keep sticks in ?

Any advice is appreciated

Seems most everyone here goes 65%. That is where I keep mine as well.

65% smokes better IMHO. Lots of opinions out there... "search" here at CS will bring up several threads where you can see where most people come out.

Here is one in particular that is included among the "stickys" - some of the more useful threads at the top of most forums.

I'd stay anywhere in the 65-70 range.

66.4587% Precisely.

Dude, don't stress about it too much, cigars are much more flexible than we give them credit for. As long as you keep it about 60% and under 75% you'll be fine. You'll find the drier smokes smoke better. I have 65% beads in my humi that I smoke from and 70% in my cooler that's for aging. I don't even run a hygrometer, just make sure the beads are cared for. Haven't had a bad smoke due to storage yet.

I'm a bit over-compulsive so I watch the damn hygometer like a hawk

Part of the reason for going with the beads is so I don't have to worry "as often" as with the green foam s***.

I would suggest experimenting to see what you like.

Re: RH - what's the best percentage ?

I wonder then, why does any literature / B&M / anyone I've ever talked to say that 70% is the "correct" humidity, when so many of you lowland gorillas have had good experience with less RH than that ?

Re: RH - what's the best percentage ?

If I want to age something long term, then I'll go with 70%, for my "go-to" smokes I will go with 60% to 65%.

Who knows? I'm sure there were always folks that thought that was too wet. Another one of those urban myths, I reckon.

Re: RH - what's the best percentage ?

I saw a thread on here a few days ago that had a story about the 70/70 thing but I can't remember what thread it was.
