I saw these in the CI catalog, and they sound pretty tasty. Has anyone ever tried these? Are they as good as they sound? How's the construction?

I 'won' a bundle of robusto a few months back. Not a bad try in the morning if you have a 10 minute drive to work, you need a cigar and don't mind throwing a 1/10th smoked one out the window. Other than that they will go straight to your 'b'ador to be given out to the non cigar smokers.

Re: CI 'Original Cubans'

Okay... must be my newbiness showing through. I had gotten a bundle of these just to see how they'd be as an everyday smoke kind of quickie thing. I figured for the price if I don't like em' no biggie. At the risk of being riduculed. It was a darned decent smoke. Very nice and creamy. A very quick smoke which is what I was looking for. I actually nubbed the darned thing. Typically a cigar has to be good to keep to the very end like that. While it's no where near a best pick I don't regret the bundle at all. Indeed I have a friend that I think would enjoy the smoothe taste and aroma this gave off.

I parsed three warning signs from this post.

1. CI catalog
2. Sound pretty tasty
3. Construction interests

Not to sound like a jerk but CI is in the business of catching fishermen, not fish. I used that analogy twice today but it's so true in the NC cigar business. A lot of flash usually means trash.

Sound pretty tasty? I've yet to see an unflattering description of a cigar by the manufacturer. Imagine that.

Construction means not much. Back when I tried a little of everything I found the Perdomo Cuban somesuch torpedo. Stunning construction. Built like a brick sh%thouse. Tasted like one too!

Enjoy the journey. Me, I've settled into a nice comfortable VR, Trinidad and bolivar jag. If I could buy a mountain of clasicos, unicos, bbf, bpc and reyes/fundies I'd be done exploring.

oh also I've found if the packaging pays homage to Cuba and it's not actually cuban - RUN! 100% marketing to newbs.

Out of morbid curiousity I had to look them up.

Those that remember the legendary, authentic Cuban cigars know that they tasted sort of like vanilla ice cream soda.

Hmm ... I probably smoked my first Cuban in 81 or 82 and a few since then and I don't recall any of them tasting like a vanilla ice cream soda. I compared the verbage to one of my other favorite CI specials, the Cremosa Cubana.

And since handmade cigars for closeout prices like this just aren’t economically feasible for a factory to make anew, I recommend jumping on them, particularly if you're a bargain hunter

Oh crap ... they're getting away ... hold on a sec while I order me up a few bundles ....

OK, back. Whew ... I thought for a sec that those cremosas would be sold out before i get to them.

Fighting Cock is a fantastic bargain!

Dang ... another one ..... just hold on ...OK?

The Perdomo 2 mistakes or fresh rolled wheels are decent torps that you can usually get at a good price on cigarbid ... I would not pay CI prices for them.

Between them and JR's, I've been suckered into a couple of buys based on unabashed hyperbole. Today I got a special "One Day Only" sale in which they were selling bundles of 5 Vegas cigars for $44 bucks and claiming that this particular vitolla was nothing short of the second coming of Jesus, wrapped in a maduro leaf. You have to love copywriters, though. After all, without them, my J. Crew khakis would just be a pair of pants, and not "made for outdoor action and exploration!"

I third that emotion. The '05 Limitadas are especially nice.

Re: CI 'Original Cubans'

Guess I'll have to try eating some ass to see how it stacks up? Won't see me holding my breath for that one (no pun intended) o

Could be just the stage I'm in. I am definitely in the try 'almost' everything stage. I dip in and out of it. I've had all of the above listed sticks <no cremosas>.

Most of these posts above went over my head and I truly couldn't tell some of the sarcasm from..... well true sarcasm. But I'm still getting acclimated to da jungle. I'm sure the light bulb will go off one day and I'll realize what all has been said.
