How long have you been smoking cigarettes, and how heavy a smoker are you? How is your sense of smell?
A friend of mine moved from cigarettes to cigars, and he indicated his taste/smell seemed to be a bit impaired from his heavy cigarette use and things started opening up for him a few weeks after he moved away from cigarettes. |

Re: Am i stupid or what i am doing wrong?
Those 4 cigars that i've smoked, i smoked them in about a span of 2 years. So maybe i should smoke a little more often to get use with the taste?
I dont know? |

I would try a couple of the cigars suggested here before writing them off, though.

Re: Am i stupid or what i am doing wrong?
I think like others are saying, you might just have to develop the palette for cigars - or, they simply might not be for you.
But even most people who don't like cigars will admit the are a different experience to smoking a cigarette, so perhaps you should try another cigar. This time, take some time before you light it to analyze it. How does the foot smell? Take a draw after you cut it but before you light it. How does that taste? Then as you smoke the cigar, try it with some different things, maybe nuts, whisky, rum, or chocolate. Maybe even take notes. If you still think it tastes like a cigarette after all of that, then smoke a cigarette immediately afterward and see if it really reminds you of a cigar. If it really does, well then give up cigars! Cigarettes are way cheaper and if they taste the same to you, there's no sense smoking a cigar. |

Has anyone thought, just for a moment, that his pallet is fresh and not developed enough to taste the tobacco properly yet.
Look little brother, keep trying different cigars. Keep them mild or medium, but stay away from the full body smokes... Good beginner cigars are: Macanudo Cafe Hyde Park Natural Fuente 8-5-8 Punch Rothchild Natural Romeo y Julieta tubo #4 "Be patient little Padawan. You have much to learn but it will come in time. Marcus! Thrust the CS force. You're a wookiee now , but you will learn. Oh yes, you will learn.

It IS possible that cigars are not for you. Not everybody has the same taste, as Lou has already suggested. Then again, it can take time to develop a taste. Have you tried any NCs? Like a Macanudo? Might take some experimenting to discover what you like- IF you find anything you do like.
Many variables- it's up to you if you want to keep trying or just decide that cigars are not for you. Good luck! |

Re: Am i stupid or what i am doing wrong?
I would recommend trying a mild but flavorful cigar. Maybe one with a Connecticut wrapper. If that still tastes bad to you, cigars might simply not be for you and that is OK.

Re: Am i stupid or what i am doing wrong?
I agree with the others that you may want to try other brands and just practice smoking. It's strange to me that the cigars you list seem like cigarettes to you, as the room note that comes off of most cigars I've had are much more fragrant and pleasant than any cigarette smoke I've encountered (I don't smoke cigarettes).
Like you I also read my eyeballs out about "smoking technique" before I took my first puff of anything, but I found out that tasting a cigar properly just requires practice and some personal preference. The biggest difference was when I was learning how to modulate the soft palate so that I would get just a few whiffs of smoke going through my nose as I was exhaling, depending on the strength of the smoke. It seems to be about playing with the flow of air and smoke in your mouth and nose. I've been at this since the end of summer and have had probably a few dozen smoking sessions in total, and only in the last couple months or so have I been happy with being able to detect more flavours in my cigars. The difference is big enough that I almost consider the first few cigars I've had as not having smoked them at all, unless they were really horrible. Good luck. ![]() |
