I am stationed in Iraq. I usually order from JR's although the new catalog with the Panic advertisement about the Govt. Taxing the heck of of cigars kinda turned me off to them this month. Since being stationed here I have ordered from JR's and Holts. Both packages arrived safely and the cigars were in great condition. Both packages were ordered the same day and Holts showed up first. Holts is based out of Philly I think. Don't quote me on that while JR's in in NC. My mail ships overseas closer to Holts which might have been the difference in shipping time.
I chose JR's because I was stationed in NC years ago and have had great experiences with them. I chose Holts our of east of use from the odering system. It was easier for me to check out using an APO address.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: famous or holts

I use several etailers because of differences in selection, price, and service. I use all of these:

Famous
Holts
Cigar International
Jack Schwartz
Mikes
Cigar Place

Cigar Place is routinely the cheapest, running about a third less than the others, if they have what you want. They are frequently out of the popular stuff because of their prices.

Re: famous or holts

I'm not very site loyal, as I am always looking for a better deal, BUT the one site I am done ordering through is JR. Moldy cigars ruined JR for me, and that last catalog showcased a big batch of BS. Generally the prices are beatable as well.

Probably the two favorites for me are cigar.com and CI.

Re: famous or holts

Until I read your post I was unfamiliar with Holt's. I just browsed around on their site and think I might order from there in the future. They have a lot of brands I have not seen elsewhere.

I have placed online orders with Cigars International, Famous, and Cigars.com and I can't say I'm really loyal to any one. I will generally shop around to find the best deal and then buy. Most of the time that better deal is found on CI, but not always...Famous has some good deals too. If I'm buying singles though I stick to my local shop.

Thanks for turning me on to Holt's....I learn something new everyday!

I order mostly from CI and Famous-smoke. Tobaccolocker is good for Padron 64 anny's.
Never ordered from Holts but I have heard good things about them!

Order from Me some of the best deals you can find are at your local B&M, my website isn't complete yet but calling me at 781-321-3593 always works. There is a reason why even people from "Tax Free" New Hampshire shop with us in Taxachusetts.

I feel guilty if I charged the same on cigars that some of the prices that I see online.

Re: famous or holts

another reason that a lot of people like holt's is because they've got tons of cheap bundles, which generally aren't dog rockets. in txmatt's cheap smokes threads there's loads of praise for brahmas, fine catch, etc etc. plus they've got cheap DPG smokes for sure

I' ve used both with much success. Had a shipping error at Famous once, but support was good, and I'd certainly order again.

Re: famous or holts

Go with the one that has the best price for the cigars you want.

Dont' forget to factor in shipping - this can vary from site to site, and you may even get free shipping on certain sites if your order qualifies.

I've used Cigars International, Atlantic, and Fuller's Pullers, and have been very satisfied with each.

Re: famous or holts

Famous has GREAT customer service. If you order alot, things are gonna go wrong, and they take care of it. Tons of great bundles, seconds, and lower-cost sticks. I think their selection of super premiums is not as good as Holts though. Holts gets some pretty rare sticks, and they put alot of them into some pretty amazing samplers. Both are great to deal with. Another goodie is TNT Cigars, which often happens to have some of the more rare sticks.

Re: famous or holts

I usually go with Famous. Actually I just ordered a box from Famous and Holts last night. Ordering from Holts will be my first and it was because Famous didn't have what I wanted. Also, I've never had a problem with Famous yet. Will see how Holts is.
