Lighting Question
I frequently see in cigar videos that the smoker always blows on the head of the cigar after lighting it. What is the function of this exactly? Thank you for satisfying my noobish curiosity. Thanks!

Re: Lighting Question
I do this too sometimes. While I am not sure of the actual reason, I do it to try to spread the "cherry" out to try to get the entire foot of the cigar evenly lit. It is something you can use to help light so you have a consistent burn because you can see what is burning and what is not.

Re: Lighting Question
Be kind to me folks, this is my first post at Club Stogie.
I find that a torch lighter is best for an even burn. I rotate the foot above the flame, then take a puff or two with the flame in mid-foot. That seems to ensure an even burn, and I rarely have to touch up a good cigar that is lit in this manner. |

Re: Lighting Question
I actually do this all the time. My reason is to see if the foot has an even glow all round. After toasting the foot itīs all black so blowing just serves as a guide for me.

Re: Lighting Question
There are two distinct ways of light a cigar.
1. Lighting the cigar, drawing and rotating the cigar. This ensures an even and fast light. 2. Lighting the foot of the cigar (never drawing on it), rotating, and blowing on it until it's even. The difference is the heat of the draw. If you do number 1, you are pulling the heat into the cigar. Number 2, you are simply getting the foot completely lit, than drawing on the cigar. Personally, I try to practice number 2 simply because the first draw is very consistant and smooth. Number 1 makes you draw continiously on a hot cigar so the heat is very intense. This, in my opinion, is the equivalent of taking a draw too quickly which makes the taste harsh.

Re: Lighting Question
It seems to work well when you're trying to spread the light around without having to torch the cigar more and get it hotter. I do it, although it won't matter if you dont.
