This used to be done frequently a long time ago (pretty much over the entire cigar) when humidification and cigar construction was not very good.

Today the only reason to wet a cigar would be to compensate for bad humidification or correct the burn on a bad cigar.

I imagine the wicking action of the gar would even out the siliva then the lighting action would be buffered across the foot.
The eveness of the burn happens in more than just the simple lighting of the gar moreso its construction and storage.

I put my foot in my mouth several times while smoking a cigar but never the cigars.

Joking aside, I DO occasionally lick the head (that's what she said) of the cigar. If I'm using a cheaper cutter, I feel like it helps get a cleaner cut. Not sure it DOES... just my theory.

ALSO, no one asks me for a hit off my cigars
