Licking the foot of the Cigar?

I was smoking a Graycliff 1666 outside at a dinner party my friend was throwing when her stepfather stepped outside. I had brought a few extra sticks, just in case someone wanted one too. When I offered one to him, he jumped.

We went back inside to my travel humidor, and I let him pick one (La Gloria Cubana robusto). He said "Thanks" very sincerely, and then licked his lips and put THE WHOLE CIGAR INTO HIS MOUTH (deep throat style) and pulled it slowly out, wetting the entire outside of the stick. He smiled and I handed him my cutter, and said nothing of it (didn't want to be rude, as far as I was concerned it was his smoke). Damned if he didn't nub the thing.

I used liberal amounts of isopropyl alcohol to clean the cutter when I got home... but thanks for educating me about why he would do it.

Personally, I give my cigars to a guy that owns a British pub/fish 'n chips joint here in Santa Monica and he inserts them into his esteemed nostrils which lend a particular je ne sais quoi to the gar. DEEEEELISH!

I've seen this done before too, though i've never asked why. It is disturbing.

i damn near fell off the couch laughing so hard when I read this post, especially how he used LIBERAL amounts of alcohol to clean the cutter after the scarring event took place.

Must be a bunch of youngsters on here. I have been smoking cigars almost forty years. Back in the day, the glue used on wrappers was not very effective, and cigars, mostly Cubans, would delaminate when you lit them. Wetting the wrapper seemed to help rewet the glue and hold the wrapper on.

I'd say, her father in law was either used to smoking dry cigars and he developed this technique to evenly distribute his saliva to compensate for it, or he was simply showing off for you.

That's probably the funniest cigar related story I've ever heard. I mean, it makes sense in a twisted way if he was brought up to wet a dry cigar like that, but wow.

Anyway, if I have an under-humidified stick, I usually wet the cap, but usually with my lips as licking it would certainly elicit lewd comments from my smoking buddies.
