Licking the foot of the Cigar?

My friend told me that I should lick the foot of the cigar before lighting so that I can get a more even burn. I don't know how logical that is but is there any truth to this?

Thanks
Brad

Re: Licking the foot of the Cigar?

not anything i've never done. I've heard of people wetting a side that burning too fast to correct a burn, but not as a prevention.

Good storage provides you with a good burn in my opinion. I've had problems with cigars that are over-humidified staying lit.

I see no logic in it. But it may stem from an old-time lore when people used to lick their cigars, possibly to add what little humidity they could before lighting. There are still a few guys at the shop I frequent that practice this technique.

To get a clean burn you should always wash the cigar in with your laundry ... using ONLY unscented Tide. Then and ONLY THEN you are ASSURED a CLEAN BURN.

Re: Licking the foot of the Cigar?

Personally I let bury my cigars in the snow and then search for them when I want one. Not only do you get this wonderful sense of accomplishment when you find it and have frost bite, but you get a cigar that is soaked, which of course means it will burn perfect and give off oodles of smoke.
