Wax on... Wax off... Wrapper on? Wrapper off?
Just wondering what the prevailing practice is regarding clipping the head with wrapper on versus wrapper off.
Dave, at cheaphumidors, sent out a "tip" on clipping with the cello in place providing a better cut and cleaner/sharper blade than with cello off. I've always enjoyed slipping that thing out of the cello (throwback to a kid on Christmas morning, I guess), and cutting or clipping the bare-naked stogie. Any thoughts or preferences? |

Re: Wax on... Wax off... Wrapper on? Wrapper off?
When gifting a cigar, I always ask if they would like for me to clip it for them. If so, then I clip it with the cello on, otherwise, I take the cello off first.

I've read in many different places that clipping it in the cello is best if you have a cheaper single blade guillotine, it will give you a cleaner cut, but that if you have a nice, sharp, double bladed guillotine, like a xikar, it's not necessary.

Re: Wax on... Wax off... Wrapper on? Wrapper off?
I have never understood the idea behind cutting with the wrapper on. How could cutting through more layers be beneficial to the blade or the cut? Cutting through the cello would add more resistance to the cut, which puts more pressure on the cigar to be squished before being sliced.
I think it's utter BS.
