I thought that some of us newbies could exchange ideas/comments on all things related to our cigar experience. I recently joined Cigar Live and I have to say the fellow members are very knowledgeable and friendly. I write this to see if any newbies would like to begin with me and continue a thread. It could consist of what we are currently smoking, our preferences and what we liked or disliked about the cigar our purchased smoking related product(s) (cutters/humidors/etc.). If anyone is interested please follow up.
This potentially would allow some of us newbies to grow together in our cigar knowledge and share our experiences and our preferences. This would also help with the learning curve. If anyone has any questions or suggestions please post and we will get this going. I look forward to hearing from you soon. -ND Jones |

I'm game...
Especially if we can get some 'mentor' volunteers to kinda keep an eye on the thread or section... Now that's an idea...a newbie section and a sub moderator level called mentor Hmmmmmmmm

I agree, but not a noob forum, just for folks who are new to cigars...
I don't think we want to confuse it with all newbs must prove themselves in this area first kinda deal... Just a place to organize and make it easier for us to find information that pertains to that specific subset

Thanks for the responses. A Social group is a good suggestion and probably a better term. This would also differentiate between those simply new to Cigar Live and those new to "all things cigar". My goal is to have an open forum/social network that is open. An example is as follows.
I recently bought my first box of smokes. I chose the Romeo y Julietta Reserve Maduros type: Bellicosos. Now that I have some loose sticks and purchased a box I am looking to buy my first humidor. The winter is creeping in and with the Heat on all the time, my stogies are already starting to dry a bit ( a lot of dry air recirculating). I look forward to purchasing one and I will report on the experience. Also Also we can discuss opinions about smokes we enjoyed or have tried and will not purchase again. So far I enjoy : Arturo Fuente (Hemingway, Opus X) C.A.O (Italia, MX2, Maduro Anniversary ) and looking forward to trying the Sopranos edition Cohiba (Black) Oliva (they make some great stogies) Onyx (for the price hard to beat for Maduros) Partagas-Black Label Punch (Champion) Romeo y Julietta (Reserve Maduro) And I bought a tin of the Acid sampler and to be honest many of the smokes had an infused, saccharin sweet like flavor to them. A few where decent but I would not place them with my other stogies (I wouldn't want to effect my quality stogies). This is just my humble opinion Also tried Henry Clay and Puros Indios, you may enjoy but i won't purchase again. Please let me know what you are currently smoking, what you look forward to picking up or if there is a particular smoke your looking for let me know and I will keep my eyes open. Also If any one has a box and you would like to trade up a few let me know and we can work something out. Especially the Maduro smokers. Take care, ND I look forward to trying |

I like the idea of the "newbie to cigars" section too. I'm trying new things thanks to a few veteran smokers that hang out at my B&M. My palate isn't up to snuff yet and some sticks are too spicy right now. (It's funny because I love spicy foods.) My current fav is Rocky Vintage 1990 Sixty. I also enjoyed a Padilla 68. I had an Opus X a number of years ago and it kicked my ass. I was in way over my head.

Yeah, and maybe it is because I used Copenhagen so long, but I dived straight into full body cigars and have loved them.
The Mild to Medium can be nice, but my passion lies in the stronger cigars... I'm enjoying EGO's right now as my goto smoke, but have also been going through the selections my B/SOTL gifted me here recently...

I kinda like the idea of new members merging in with the rest of the board. (One of) the great thing(s) about this place is that everyone is welcome and no one is treated like a "newbie." In fact, Daniel and the mods have stated that they don't even like that term. I don't think you need your own sandbox. No one has a problem with inexperienced smokers posting questions or ideas in the general area.
Of course if you feel more comfortable in your own thread no one will say you can't, but I think a separate area would kind of negate one of the reasons that new smokers like to come here. Besides, I think some of the more experienced guys like helping out the new smokers. Just my opinion. |

i started the hobby about 6-7 months ago. i still consider myself new to the leaf. although i've tried a number of cigars. the owner of the local B&M that i went to in Chicago (while at home in December) gave me some good advice to keep the labels of what i smoked in a notebook and rate them. all B/SOTL that are just starting out should do this. some of the ones i've tried (and rated in my opinion, on a scale of 1-5) are:
CAO Cameroon - 4.1/5 CAO Maduro - 3/5 Quorum - 2.9/5 (awesome everyday smoke for the price, $1-2/stick) Punch Pita - 3/5 Gispert - 3.3/5 Gurkha Centurian Double Perfecto - 3.7/5 Gurkha Legend - 4/5 (AWESOME!!!) Torano Casa Torano - 3.5/5 Romeo Y Julieta Viejo - 4.5/5 (in my opinion, one of the best!) Flor de Oliva - 3.5/5 Montecristo Media Noche - 3/5 Romeo Y Julieta Bully - its been a while, need to smoke another to rate it...lol Don Kiki Green - 3.2/5 Don Kiki Red - 3.8/5 Rocky Patel Connecticut - 3.7/5 These are only some that i've tried. i started keeping tabs on my sticks within the last month or so. ![]()

I'm also fairly new to cigars. I've only been smoking for about 7 mos. after my wife decided to buy me a humidor and a Cigar-of-the-Month Club from cigar.com. I've since greatly matured my tastes in cigars and moved on from the Indian Tabac's and Helix's to higher end Fuentes and DPGs. I guess you could kind of say that I'm a snob now and that is not what I set out to do. I just fell in love with the flavor profiles that these two offered and haven't really looked back. Not to say that I don't enjoy other brands, those two are just my favorite.
