I usually do a meal first and follow it with chocolate. Going from cigarettes to cigars I cannot taste the milder ones and my biggest dilemma has been learning to slow down with the cigar. Even then sometimes I have to put it down for a 'bit.

If you have no intention of increasing your smoking habits, you probably just need to stick with what you are the most comfortable with smoking and enjoying. Remember, this is supposed to be for you enjoyment and relaxation. It's not a contest to see who can smoke the strongest without getting sick.

I know several guys who only smoke one cigar, they smoke everyday and will not even try anything else. They are comfortable with where they are and that's all they are after.

Why do you want to increase your tolorance?

Check this thread out from last year titled "Uneasy Stomach?"

There have been some opinions on blood sugar levels in relation to nicotine's "punch" to the system. The idea beind that having a balanced blood sugar level will help to manage nicotine's effect on the body. It could be that you had lower blood sugar when smoking a more "powerful" cigar and that could cause you to feel queasy. I usually have something to eat or a drink of soda if I am going for a cigar with some ligero in it. It may work for you...

For some reason I tend to smoke faster if my stomach is empty. Must be an oral fulfillment thing. That probably just makes the situation worse if it is a strong cigar.

I don't worry about strength, just taste - always make sure I don't have empty stomach and have either good coffee, Jolt or alcohol. Only cigar that has knocked me for a loop was a GR Special. With 2 a day I know my nicotine tolerance has increased.

Practice smoking full bodied cigars? Doesn't have to be expensive since your just building the tolerance. Also big thing is to take your time. Some people get sick because they smoke to fast. I wonder if people actually smoke "The Chisel" said to be very overwhelming.

There are several cigars I really enjoy that I don't find too strong (cabaiguan, hemingway, etc). I'd like to increase my tolerance so I can enjoy any cigar offered to me, without having to worry about feeling ill.

I smoked 4 cigars in 18 holes on Saturday! I'm such a badass! (sarcasm).

I want to be able to smoke strong cigars that have complexity and be able to discern the subtle flavors rather than having the smoke ruined by being overpowered by one flavor. Isn't that why everyone tries to build up there tolerance? I mean you may be fine limiting your palate but I want to try everything out there that is worth trying.

Although I do know of cigars that are made only to be strong and one noted. I forget what manufacturer, cheap smokes though like $3 a stick or something.

Try sticking to mild, quality smokes. There's plenty of them out there. Herfing is supposed to be a relaxing diversion, not a scrape with a sublethal overdose. Smoking slowly (fewer puffs) helps reduce the nicotine intake as well.

I think you definitely build up a tolerance or at least become acclimated to the feeling a strong cigar gives you. Alot of it depends on time of day, how much sleep you got, what you've eaten/how long it's been since you ate, what you are drinking, etc. There are many factors that contribute to how a cigar will hit you other than the cigar itself and your "tolerance."

However I know guys who have been smoking everyday for decades and they still don't touch the strong stuff because it makes them sick. Some people just aren't cut out for the full bodied sticks. It doesn't equate to your manliness or anything. It's just the way it is.

And everyone has a breaking point. I had 7 cigars at work the other night. The last 4 were LFD L-500, LFD DL700, Tatuaje Unicos, LFD Chisel Maduro, and a Tatuaje Gran Cojonu. I smoke strong sticks regularly and like to think my tolerance is high but by the time I finished up the Tat GC I felt high as a kite.

I had a bad nicotine reation just recently, and I blamed the fact that I did not take my time smoking the cigar. The feeling it gave was I wanted to puke then I had a bad head ache for a few hours, kinda felt like a hangover. This will not stop me from enjoying a good cigar, I'll just take my time and have something to drink everytime I smoke.:spiderman:

This is a great point.

If you cant do the heavier sticks, just dont smoke them. It could be ten times worse.... you could not be able to smoke at all! And that is just wrong.
