You will build a tolerance over time for sure if you're smoking regularly. However, if you're not smoking that often you may not. I smoked cigarettes for years and am still in the process of ridding myself of them (harder than I thought), so I've never had much of a problem with the nicotine in cigars. That said, on an empty stomach there are smokes out there that knock me back a bit. Definitely save the stronger cigars for after a big meal.

As others have said though, if you're happy with medium strength cigars, why worry about it? Unless you really like the flavoring in stronger cigars (which I do), then I'd just stick with what makes you comfortable.

Nicotine tolerance does seem to increase - smoke 2 a day for stress relief and do not find any cigars too strong any more BUT I always make sure have something in my stomach and have something to drink. Actually nice not to have to worry about strength so can just concentrate on taste. Just find good cigars that you are comfortable with, relax and enjoy the pleasure.

consider this,
Smoke what you enjoy instead of trying to "prepare" for some future event. You may find that over time (tolorance?) your tastes change and the more full bodied cigar is what you enjoy...that is what happened to me and I did not even realize it was happening... all of a sudden one day i realized that i did not care for the Casa Blanca's of the world any longer, but wanted and enjoyed the Camacho Triple Maduros instead..
The idea is enjoyment not training for a "puffin match"

Smoking as many sticks as I do I tend to not feel the nicotine buzz much anymore (anywhere from 3-8 syciks a day, depending on time of course) but I recently got to try the LX2 from CAO and that one I had to sit down for, definitely a full bodied smoke that you can feel in your stomach! Anyway even smoking at less frequent intervals you can build a tolerance by smoking medium-full bodied smokes (basically working your way up) when you do decide to smoke.

some good info on this thread....I think that like others were saying you can build up tolerance but even at that some gars are just way to powerful and will rock you no matter what.

I enjoy them (2 or 3 a week) the most with a good brew or if I am not drinking that day with a cold Root Beer (No Caffeine) when I'm at the Lounge.

I have been smoking since April of this year and strated off by strictly smoking very mild sticks to avoid feeling "green". The first time I smoked a medium/full bodied stick (a JFR 6x60) I thought I was going to die because it gave me a really bad headache & stomach ache.

Since then I have smoked some medium/full bodied cigars that I enjoyed very much without any ill effects like CAO Brazilia, La Riqueza, Carlos Torano 1916.

i suppose just sticking to mild or medium smokes would be a good idea. and once you build a little bit more from there then you can move into the more full-bodied smokes

Although I have been smoking cigars over 35 years, I can never recall having any physical side effects from smoking. Guess I am just a lucky individual pretty much immune to the effects of nicotine. Can only imagine what guys feel when they say they had to sit down etc when smoking a cigar, just never happened to me. I do follow a hierarchy of strength throughout the day though, ie, milder in the AM and gradually stronger. That is mainly to preserve the palate though. On average, smoke 3-5 a day.

Smoking once a month will not get you the desired effect because by the time you smoke the next one 4 weeks have passed and the nicotine in your system will be gone. Stick with a mild stogie ( something tasty though ) and when you want to move up the cigar chain like 2-3 per week you will get over any residual effects of the nicotine.

My boss recently showed me how he treats his nicotine buzz when he smokes cigars when he was in Dubai recently. He likes to jump in his car and drive around. He can be found on this damn youtube doing donuts and drifting in his Maybach through the streets of Dubai. He also has another sports car on there that he drifts. Funny and dangerous shit if you ask me, but who in their right mind would treat a $300K car like that?!?!?!
